I'm pretty solid with my upcoming choice of buying an 790i Ultra SLI mobo, but as far as the brand, does it matter?
Does XFX have their double lifetime warranty on their mobos as well?
Is there really anything I should be concerned about from the different brands? From what pricegrabber pulls up, it's only showing the EVGA board, is the XFX one not released yet? =============
You might wanted to check on the Asus, can't remember the forum but a few members were have some problems with it. Along with high price you'll pay for the Asus board. XFX board has been released. =============
I don't know about their warrenty, but I will be going with xfx. I have only bought xfx video cards in the past and the only thing that would make me consider changing to evga is their stepup program.
**Edit XFX motherboards have a 2 year warrenty, their cards have the double lifetime warrenty. =============
Yea i just ordered a system with the XFX 790i mobo... lot of the reviews basically said the asus and the xfx are the same.. but ya pay for the asus premium... also some overclocking issues on the 780i boards from all manufacturers i believe..so they had some reservations with the 790i about that... but as long as ya dont overlock yer cpu.. the board should last a long long time... read the review of the xfx on the front page... =============
I can't comment on the other boards, but this EVGA is treating me fine. =============
i dont know about the asus, but the evga and the xfx are exactly the same. but the evga has a lifetime warranty iirc, and step-up for 90 days. but the prospects of evga releasing a better mb than the 790i within the next 90 days are very slim. =============
By the Asus do you mean the Striker II Extreme? I think the main differences with that are the bundle, the sound card and the cooling (passive with the option for watercooling). If you don't already have an X-Fi maybe the $100 or so premium over the evga/xfx 790i is worth it, I don't know. =============

From what I've read on the 790i boards, the whole point of paying top dollar for this board is so that you CAN overclock. If you don't overclock with this board, I don't know why you would get it versus something else. Reviews left and right are saying that it is a board for overclocking noobs and it makes it super easy to overclock your CPU a good 1Ghz or more.
I think I'm going with XFX. A 90 day stepup program seems pretty useless to me. I research stuff enough I don't think I've ever changed my mind about what I've bought within 90 days. Maybe 6 months I want something new, but in 90 days nothing new is released, especially if it had to be EVGA.
Looks like I'm down with an XFX mobo and an XFX 9800GX2... though I've heard their support is crappy compared to EVGA, still I've never called or emailed for support for any rig I've owned, so I don't know that support is all that important to me either, as long as the original quality of the products are good, I shouldn't have any problems.
Thanks for the insights! =============
You can overclock it's just nvidia is fucking lame and sent every reviewer the p03r2 bios and gave us purchasers the p03 so we'd buy it and wait for this bios. Rip us off basically until this bios comes out. =============

Such as? Nothing really else out there that can accomodate the requirements such as tripple sli and not crash or be super unstable. =============

I never thought about that. I guess that is true or could be true. Well money wise I have to hold off a month or so since this board with the 4GB of DDR3 memory puts it up as a decent sized purchase.
Now I just need that stupid E8500 CPU to actually be released instead of not be found anywhere. I don't want to order it from any store that doesn't say they have it in stock, because it's basically the same situation where you end up paying todays price for a chip that could drop by the time you actually receive it. =============
Dont forget to read the review of the old 780i boards.. and how they kept failing a lot when ppl overclocked em... and the one person whos 780i had no problems.. was the one who never overclocked it... good boards.. but lets see how the drivers for the 790i end up being, as well as whether or not the OC'n prob was fixed... id hate to send my comp in 2-3 times in 3 years just so i could say.. I OVERCLOCKED IT! its in the shop... ITS OVERCLOCKED.. its in the shop... IM UBER OVERLOCKED... its in the shop...
bragging rights mean nothing if your computer is in the shop more often then its being played on... =============
I guess this is where EVGAs stepup program might come in useful, but does it let you switch to another mobo of theirs or does it have to actually be a "step-up" from what you currently own? =============
IMO, Ditch the nvidia for mainboard solutions period, X48 (Rampage, Maximus) FTW
Nvidia flakes on their customer in bios, driver, and OC support. =============
