I just sold my 8800gt and I'm stuck on a 7200gs until some finances work themselves out. Looking at the 4870, very interested.
However, the last time I owned a ATI card (x1800xt) there was a bug in the Aspect Ration scaling which apparently was still unfixed last time I checked (around January). Any news? I play alot of WC3 still, and it doesn't render it stretched while using Nvidia drivers. I'm hoping ATI has taken cared of this? =============
Yes, I installed 8.6 and it seems like it's fixed. Works great with my x300 and Westy 37", I can play old games at 1024x768 and 1280x1024 with black bars on both sides. Also if I set 1680x1050 it gives me 1:1 scaling with black bars all around.
BTW I'm using the x300 as a backup card until my 4870 shows up :D =============
They added support for GPU scaling.
Centered Timings
Maintain Aspect ratio
Fill Screen =============
It's been working for a while now. Even during that period when Nvidia broke theirs =) =============
Sweet! Looking forward to grabbing one then. Thanks guys! =============
I don't have the new drivers, but it always worked for me, but only with widescreen resolutions, like 1366x768 and 1280x720. =============
Best part of the ATI cards is the image scaling, imo.
Been immensely useful at 1920x1200 for games that the card can't quite handle. =============
