So I've been looking around at different kinds of RAM on the internet and continually find this brand "G.Skill" lurking around at some very low prices. They always have great reviews and they seem to work well for thousands of people. My question is... how do they rank up in quality against some of the more older and respected brands such as Corsair or Crucial? Is it worth my time to get this fancy blue and red coated RAM? Anyone own some of this stuff that can personally vouch for it's quality?
Good discussion at the very least in my opinion... Especially for those wanting to get good RAM but are hesitant about this brand. =============
GSkill is awesome RAM. Period. No matter the CAS, 4 or 5, you will be pleased.
Don't even bother tweaking it. With XP, buy 2x1 GIG set. Newegg has them for 70-80.00 =============
Sweet. Ya, I was really leaning that way to buy them. On XP 64 would it be worth the extra money to get 2X2GB sticks of this G.Skill RAM? =============
I like mine.. Just got 2x2gb yesterday from the Egg. nice fast ram. Give them a try. =============
I just bought 4 gigs of this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231114)
Couldn't be happier. =============
BHZ's are the best ram I have ever had. I had a set of DDR and now a set of DDR2 and when it is time for me to go to 3 I am sure I will be looking for them yet again. =============
Just curious...are these available anywhere other than Newegg? I may have missed it but that's the only place I've seen them. =============
I've had bad luck with G.Skill ram recently. I really don't know why.
Way back when the TCCD boom happened, I paid top dollar for some G.Skill LE's and it was great ram. Recently, I owned some G.Skill HZ DDR2, and they did not overclock at all, and soon stopped performing at stock, and eventually just stopped working. So, RMAed, got a second set that also went bad on me (different board too, and it was never OCed). The third set I got I still have now, about three months strong, but it doesn't over clock very well at all. Maybe I am having shit luck, but to me, G.Skill ain't what it used to be.
I've seen Crucial going for way cheap lately... I'd sooner get that. =============
My bro has a set of DDR2 sticks in his system and likes it a lot.. and a set of 2x1Gb of DDR1 is supposed to arrive here today for my S939 system which by the way has higher throughput and lower latency than his Core2Quad system.
EDIT: I just put it in a bit ago and it is running at DDR566 alont with my 2x512 Corsair Value Select. Both were sold as PC3200 (DDR400).
I did have to adjust the timings a tiny bit and am still testing.. but so far so good. Also, Heatspreaders are junk.. they insulate the chips instead of dissipating it. See - http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?t=56880 =============
