Gamer looking for the BEST memory. I have an EVGA 122-CK-NF68 A1 nForce 680i SLI MB. I will run windows Vista 64.

Do I buy:

2x2 gig sticks
4x1 gig sticks

I was looking at buying four of these:

Thanks,

Save yourself $500 and buy these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

My bad, I thought you were gaming, not running SuperPi.

mostly all gamers love the Crucial Ballistic Tracers :P

depending on ur system (pc6400, pc8500) is a great performance and nice little flashing LEDS:)

but there a bit expensive

2x2 gig is a better bet than 4x1. You'll put less stress on the memory controller, allowing for more OC headroom. Furthermore, you won't have to replace your original DIMMS if you upgrade to 8 gig later down the road. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, you'll avoid installation and setup headackes some 680is have with certain types of RAM when all four slots are filled.

Do not pay extra for tighter timings. The performance increase is only recognizable on benchmarks--you won't notice a difference in real life applications. Crashthenet may have been sarcastic in his post, but he's right. The link he suggests is a good deal for good RAM.

Lastly, this all assumes you're running a higher-end dual core (E6600 or better,) or a quad core CPU. If you're running an E6420 or lower, or an Allendale chip, you'll be better served by faster PC-8500 RAM, assuming you plan to OC. If not, PC-6400 is the way to go, as it's the most common DDR2 speed (and can be had for cheap.)

Mark.

Yeah I sensed some sarcasm in his reply. I actually laughed. Thanks guys for all the posts. I never realized that it didn't have that much of an impact. I've always gone for the faster ram. I do have a q6600. I went ahead and ordered the 2x2 G. Skill memory that crash recommended. Thanks again for the information.
