My laptop is dead... s'ok cause I wanted to go back to a desktop anyhow. Someone gave me a not too old PC, its just god awfully slow. I've got it cleaned out software wise and it is servicable now. A 2ghz cpu should be more than enough for me, the main problem is XP on 256 mb ram, 50 of which is shared for video.. I'm not gaming or anything, just Office and Firefox, I'm mainly looking for a faster response time when I do stuff. To the point, I have 2 Gigs of DDR PC2700 which would work, but they are sodimm chips, the motherboard in this new thing takes dimms, so is there some cheap way to convert those over, or am I just out of luck? =============

It's cheaper to get a new set of ram than buy any adapter.

I have never heard of any adapter to do this. Memory traces have to be EXACT in length. I don't know the tolerance but I would suspect it to be less than .05mm so, there is virtually no way to make an adapter to do what you want. And, if it could be made, the expense to do it properly would probably be more than a set of memory for your board. I would suggest selling the SODIMMs and buying memory for the desktop. =============
They do make them for memory testers.. Not sure if they would actually work ina PC though.
Prices are also not listed... you have to request the price from them.

Hmm....those things reak with potential for issues:
This converter tests DDR SODIMM modules complying with current JEDEC standards. It uses an inexpensive production socket found on PC motherboards, not the heavy-duty Yamaichi test socket used on our other adapters.
Also, I don't think the system will detect the SODIMM as memory, it's going to detect the tester and work with it as a device, not RAM: The RAMCHECK tester automatically detects the presence of the converter indicating "RAMCHECK DDR SERIES" during power on. The module size, structure, and type are automatically detected, without the need for user's setup.
2 x 1gb kits start at about $85 at Newegg so IMO any type of adapter is a bad idea from a technical standpoint and will probably cost more than just buying the correct memory. And, if the SODIMMs can be sold, the cost will be relatively low for the new memory. =============

Actually the thing that that adapter is supposed to plug into is the DDR tester board... it will detect the same exact thing with the adapter as without it... (DDR TESTER). Look at the actual unit it is made to work with.
And I never said I was sure it would work. I just did a search on google and found it.
I also never said it was a great idea.. just an option. =============

Cool, I am not slamming your input. I just don't think it is a good idea. And, I spelled "reeks" rong. =============
