You know I really try to stay away from posting "rate my setup" questions but I could not resist.
I'm super new to intel ever since they phased out their socket 478s.
I guess I've not really built a new PC in years to say the least.
Anyhow, I'm ready now, I got the cash, and thanks to the [H] I did some research.
Now I have only a couple questions...
First with the setup I am going to assemble...
-Intel Q6600 Processor w/ stock cooler NEW
This buzz over this processor reminds me of the 2.4C days.
-ABIT IX38 Quad GT Mobo NEW
-OCZ ReaperX HPC 4GB (2X2GB) 240 pin DDR2 (PC2 8000) 5-5-5-18 NEW
-OCZ ReaperX HPC 2GB (2X1GB) 240 pin DDR2 (PC2 9200) 5-5-5-18 USED
-Sapphire 3870HD 512 USED
-Sapphire 3870X2 1024 NEW
-FSP Group Everest 1010W PSU
-FSP Group BoosterX 5.25 Bay Supplimentery GPU PSU 400W
-2X WD Raptor 74GB SATA
I also plan on eventually buying another single slot 3870 for 3X CrossfireX.
I figure I'm going to install Vista 64 (which work was nice to buy me a copy :D)
Now the only questions are the RAM and Proc settings.
I got the 2GB kit off of a trade here on the [H] which I thought I'd use towards a new system.
So figuring I'd do that, I decided to buy a 4GB kit with the same timings.
Will there be any problems with these new intel boards running 2-1-2-1 GB sticks with dual channel?
I really don't see why not, but I've always been curious.
Also, do memory timings play as big of a role like they did in the ole DDR days?
Plus how do you have your Q6600 overclocked???
I guess I could mimmic other people's settings and such I read off of forums and such.
But I really want to know what will really work best with air cooling.
Thanks for any help you good ladies and gentlemen can provide! =============
Well, personally I consider it a fairly general rule to not MiX n match core components. Id use the 4gb kit or another kit that has been matched to work together. =============
Though I too prefer to have the same memory sticks, I've never had a problem mixing and matching. As long as all the sticks you're running are of good quality, it shouldn't be a problem. In my current rig I've got 2xOCZ and 2xPatriot without issue. =============

No and no. =============
You guys rock! Thanks for the great feedback.
Now all I have to wait for is for Tuesday/Wednesday to come! =============
this seems really overkill without a 24"+ LCD :D =============
