I'm really looking to buy the best 24" out there, if the price is reasonable. I love watching Blu-Ray and want that HDMI to DVI connection, maybe even some console gaming. But for the most part it's for movies & games, not any kind of image work.
So with that I've come down to these two giants xD.
Which one do you think is better overall?
I think it's the BenQ.

I just got my benq v2400w and i'm in love with it. No real experience with the dell but I didnt' want to chance input lag, plus the deal on the benq is great. I also think it's more aesthetically pleasing too.
(god that movie is terrible). =============

The only noticable disadvantage of the Dell 2408 in comparison with the BenQ is input lag - for hardcore gamers only.
If you target video, general use and moderate games - there may be no comparison, again: NO comparison. The S-PVA Dell is head and shoulders above.
It does not matter how many threads about the BenQ are stuck on top of this forum - it's still a miserable TN panel (http://img207.imageshack.us/my.php?image=benqv2400wverticalcolorga6.jpg) with darker top and brighter bottom.
Same reasons to buy a TN as always:
1. To save a few bucks.
2. For fast pace games.
The BenQ V2400W and so on are very good - for TN level.
IMO this BenQ euphoria should have reasonable boundaries especially when it comes to comparison with the next class monitors. =============
I have the V2400W and it's a great monitor but it has it's faults like every TN. It's great looking on the outside and the image is above-average IMO. It's great for what it is: a TN.
If you are gaming then get the BenQ hands down. Im picky input lag wise and it feels pretty good to me. It also seems to scale lower rez's fairly well as that may be a factor if your GPU can't handle 1920x1200.
If you do a mix of gaming and image work I would still get the BenQ but that's me. Input lag sucks but im not sure how bad the Dell is there.
If you are doing just image work and browing then get the Dell hands down as that will no doubt have superior image quality. =============
To the OP, I was in the exact same position as you were between these two monitors. I ended up with the BenQ and do not regret my decision. I use to own a Dell 2007WFP IPS panel and it was a damn good monitor. When I ordered the Dell I had no clue about TN, PVA, IPS, etc. What I like about the Dell was that it had USB ports and height and swivel adjustment which the BenQ does not. On the outside, I think both monitors look equally gorgeous, each in it's own way.
The 2408 uses more power, and there may be some issues with color uniformity and color accuracy out of the box as well as input lag(just what I've read on these forums regarding this particular monitor).
In all honesty, I can say I can't tell the difference between my old Dell 2007WFP and this new BenQ monitor when playing games such as DoW, WoW, Starcraft, Civilization, etc. or running movies. I can't tell the difference between the pictures between the two displays. I just can't. Maybe if i had them sit next to one another, I could, but from memory, all my pictures, games and movies look just as good on this TN panel as my old Dell. =============
If your gaming is console-only and your first and foremost purpose is movie watching over HDMI or through PC, I'd probably give the nod to the Dell because of generally superior viewing angles, and a high quality S-PVA panel.
It has a plethora of usable inputs, and while still with some reported faults with input lag and some panel quality issues, should still give you an enjoyable experience.
You may want to wait for a bit, as Dell has now said that the newer version will be out soon with lower input lag and better sharpness controls. I have read that they mentioned the new A00 revision will have a new part number.
