Only question is, how much and how much input lag. =============
The article states the initial target market will be medical use. That means they'll be priced far outside the reach of most readers of this forum. =============
The details I remember from the press releases earlier this year:
max 240Hz refresh rate
zero latency
1st screen will be 1280x720 for the broadcast market, this year maybe? I think it was going to be later than Sony's 27" OLED
1920x1080 model will be after the 1280x720 version
The technology developer partnered with a manufacturer of broadcast monitors whose 23" LCDs sell for $10000
Also there was a recent news item on PRAD that Sony plan to make 60" TVs using FED technology. =============
This technology is very promising IMHO,
The fact that it provides CRT advantages without CRT disadvantages makes it very attractive both in regards to image quality and power consumption.
Often times high end technologies filter down to consumer-level space once manufacturing is able to meet demand at a high level of production quality and economic efficiencies.
I will be very interested in seeing how this plays out. I would consider it (on paper) to be a little bit better than OLED.
