I just bought a v7 24" D24W33 which got pretty good reviews and I got it for a pretty good price for a 24". I was upgrading from a 15" Sony SDM-M51 analog flat panel that was many years old. I wonder what the screen technology of that thing was.
I am not a gamer, The swivel stand, frame, speakers were all good. I thought it was a nice looking monitor. The colors were just not rich enough and there seemed to be a little screen flickering when my computer processor was running. Im not sure if this was the fault of my laptop or the monitor. I was using the vga connection, not the hdmi.
The 24" is a little big for my needs unless it was going to double as a tv.
This was my plan - with a single HD cable box from Time Warner (SA 8300HDC).
A. Connect it to my living room tv using the coaxial cable and/or component.
B. Connect the hdmi out to the hdmi port of my new lcd monitor.
C Connect my pc to the vga port of the monitor.
So the one cable box controls the output on both my crt television and my lcd monitor. Only downside is you cant watch 2 different show at the same time but thats not an issue for me. So I get everything working on the lcd, even the hdmi sound.
When my 24" v7 (HDCP compliant) is set to HDMI and displaying cable signal then my non _HD analog tv will also display the same tv signal which is what I want, but when my computer monitor changes input source to vga, my analog tv no longer works and I getan HDCP error on my analog tv. In other words, given the software of the cable box, I can't output to two output devices (monitor/tv) if one of them is hdmi. I cant complain about this to Time Warner because cable boxes are intended to only go to one tv/monitor.
I could buy a more expensive LCD with component/composite inputs and that would solve my problem, Or I might just buy a cheaper 22" LCD, and then a 26" LCD/TV, thus giving up on the idea of my monitor doubling as a tv.
Are there any good recommendations for a 22"? Any non-tn that are reasonably priced?
Also what technology do most of the 26" 720p tvs use?
I thank anyone who has taken the time to read this very long winded post :) =============
Check out the Samsung T220HD. It has a number of inputs and speakers, so it's possible to use as a TV. It is a TN.
22" is a hard size to find non-TN. There is only one widely available in North America, the Lenovo L220X, and it is 1920x1200 resolution.
Here is a review of it:

It is a Samsung S-PVA based monitor. =============
yes i agree, try another TN first to see what you think - i went through 4 226BW's and an HP w2207 before i settled on the samsung 245BW. i even had an 'S' panel in one of the 226BWs....and i wasnt impressed! if the next doesnt cut it then look into a VA panel of some sort as long as input lag doesn't bother you. if you want the best of the best, cough up a pretty penny and get an IPS based screen =============
The Samsung T220HD sounds nice but it is technically a tv since it has a tuner. I just wish it was a 24" for that price and I'd be all over it. 245T - seems perfect but ~$700.
The Lenovo... ouch - at least $450. For a 22" thats out of my budget.
The 245BW has similar feature set to my V7. Maybe richer colors but without the composite/component inputs I'll have the same hdmi problems as the V7 and need a separate audio cable bacause its dvi not hdmi. =============
The BenQ FP241W is a good monitor too for those purposes, as is the FP241VW (as long as they are built June 2007 or later).
It doesn't have speakers but it will allow audio over HDMI to be pushed to a pair of speakers through a built-in headphone jack. I know it's not perfect but that is another option, and it displays HD content as well or better than the 245T and has less input lag.
It also has component, s-video, composite to go along with DVI, HDMI and VGA.

Thanks 10e. The VW is $70 cheaper before 10% discount @ Benq store.. Is the only difference the stand ? Do you think the Benq is a better option than the Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP ?
When I go into Officemax today to return the V7 I may be tempted to pick up a Soyo 24" if I find an MVA.
Also, are most of the 26" 720p televisions they sell for <$500 TN panels? =============
Panel wise VW is a little bit better than W - VW comes with MPRT - but W is adjustable and pivotable. VW's built is very unique and hate-it-or-love-it. =============
