Hey,
I was wondering. 1080p refers to video that is 1920x1080. So why is it that some of my files are reporting 1920x800? Are blurays blown up to to fill 1080? Cause when I play back on my monitor [245bw] i lose a third of my screen to letterboxing. ?? =============
That's a 2.4:1 aspect ratio which is normal on wide screen movies. If you ever look at different BluRay movies at the store you will see two aspect ratios standard on the back of the box: 1.78:1 and 2.4:1.
1.78 is 16:9 widescreen which means you will not see any black bars on a normal 16:9 screen (monitors are 16:10 so black bars should be there) and 2.4:1 is the "wider screen" ratio.
1920/1.7777778 = 1080
1920/2.4 = 800.
