I am thinking about upgrading to a better fan for my cpu, and have some questions on how to remove the heatsink/fan from the cpu. Do I just rotate the heatsink/fan constantly until the heatsink/fan comes out? What are your suggestions? Thanks. =============
Unclip the heatsink and rotate it slightly back and forth before trying to remove it or it might rip the cpu out of the socket with it when you remove the heatsink. I had that happen to me once when I was upgrading an old socket 754 cpu. :eek: I almost shit but lucky for me the cpu was fine. =============
Eh, also didn't you had to take out the plate thingy from the motherboard then put in the one that came with the fan/heatsink?
Oh yea thanks for the reply. =============

My XP-90 was like that. Some heatsinks use the stock plastic retention piece. It just depends on which heatsink your going to use. If your new heatsink comes with a new plastic retention piece then use it. =============
If it gets stuck, grab a hair dryer and heat the area up.
Oh and mandatory "YOU WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY" is not satisfied. =============
you can also just let if run for a while before you shut it down and try to remove the heatsink. that way it will be easier. =============
I would run something like prime to heat the core first before removing. I remember pulling a winchester right out with my xp90 :mad: =============
Thanks guys! =============
