Hi
I have a Xbox 360 at the moment and have had it for three months. After being in GAME yesterday on launch day of the PS3 in Europe I thought to myself wow it's finally been released here. Now this might sound stupid but I just started thinking about the PS3 and the true brilliance of how gaming has evolved through each generation of console. I mean the Playstation 2 is a classic and icon of games consoles, it's stood the test of time, has over 2,000 games, and millions have been sold and I'm thinking look at the power Sony have. Well I went home and was looking through forums and websites to read people's comments and opinions, reviews and everything I could about the PS3.
Basically, I am seriously contemplating trading my Xbox 360 in for a PS3, yes I love the 360 and the games are great, indeed I have certainly enjoyed playing on it, but there is something missing and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe I'm just a Sony person at heart and I've wanted a PS3 all along I don't know but could you guys please give me some opinions and comments and feel free to ask me questions. Many thanks.
Sam =============
Do you love shooters, or would you like a variety of games? =============
I'm not fussed really, I do look my shooters. =============
Then I would say get a PS3. 360's good games are primarily shooters, whereas PS3 has a variety.
Don't so I'm lying either 360 fanboys, Oblivion and Viva Pinata are non-shooters, what else? =============
Viva Pinata is a bad game and yes I have played it. The PS3s good games are coming slowly but surely. It has a good shooter, fighting game, and racing game. RFOM, VF5, MSTORM. =============
Can't forget about a great RPG too, Oblivion. =============

You'll regret it.

And why will he regret it?
Seriously, if you have an opinion, tell us why, then maybe we'll believe you. =============

Main point of statement.
Like why will he regret it. =============
Main point of statement.
Like why will he regret it.
Cause he predicated that he likes his 360. Therefore it wouldn't be a great or wise idea to trade it in for a ps3, considering that the ps3 has less then a handfull of worthwhile games ATM. =============
Well I'm saying I like the 360 but there is something missing. =============
I felt that way when I had my DS.
I liked it a lot, but at the same time I felt I wanted a PSP more. So, I sold the DS and got a PSP, and never looked back :) =============
I really think the PS3 is gunna be as successful as the PS2 and that it's got so much going for it whereas the 360 seems dead in the water in terms of what can be done with it. =============
Will you want to play Halo 3?
My friend had a 360 he traded it in for a ps3, and we're both happy. =============

Wait for a while, that's what I'd say. Play your 360 games until you get really really bored with them and then look back at the PS3. I admit I turn the thing on at least once a day but... mostly for media playbacks and such. =============
As a owner of both I would HIGHLY recommend not geting a PS3 if you dont have any REAL reason to get one. You wont be seeing much improvement over your 360 and as you know adiuvo comment about xbox 360 not having a good variety of games is false but you own a 360 so you know this.
Look at it this way
You lose: Cackdown, Lost Planet, Gears of War,[insert your favorite 360 only games here], achievements, pc>xbox 360 connectivity, video marketplace(maybe? is that out in the uk?), XBL arcade(alot better then PSN store downloaded games), xbox live service, and money(PS3 will cost you more even after trading your 360).
You gain: Resistance, Motorstorm, blu-ray player(without a 1080p tv/monitor you dont get the greatness of it tho) and Linux. =============
Adding more to the "You lose" part: Dead Rising, HD version of Need For Speed - Most Wanted and BurnOut Revenge + best version of Call of Duty 2 + an HD DVD player.
And more to the "You gain" part: most stable version of Oblivion. =============
I've just recently got an EU PS3 and I see what everybody is saying but I've got to disagree. I realise that there is a vastly larger selection of games on the 360, and this was one of the main reasons I didn't choose it, by no means the biggest reason but it was certainly one of them. I feel there is too much selection, like everything has already been done on it.
I reckon that the 360 is nearing the end of its time, I may be wrong but compared to the PS3 I can see the PS3 lasting for a lot longer than a 360. As I say, I may be very wrong but it's my opinion. I also see a lot more potential for the PS3.
You gain: Metal Gear Solid 4, PS3 Home Service, a decent shaped controller, movement sensing, frequent updates, Games and movies up to 50gb storage space (At present, may increase up to 200gb) rather that 9gb, No need to buy an add on High defininition movies player, 1080p, curing Alzheimers, the unknown. =============
I just wrote a reply to each of you and QJ messed up, man.
@ RunawayPrisoner - Have Dead Rising and couldn't get into it after playing it once. Finished Need For Speed Most Wanted and I want Oblivion because I'm into RPGs.
@ jack_561 - I think you are right about PS3, once the game developers get going the games library should start to build up like it did with the PS2. I actually think that Sony are going to make a big effort to add new features to the PS3 via firmware updates because they know that the people want these features and that they need to keep them happy if they are to have faith and confidence in Sony to deliver. =============
Then I would say get a PS3. 360's good games are primarily shooters, whereas PS3 has a variety.
Don't so I'm lying either 360 fanboys, Oblivion and Viva Pinata are non-shooters, what else?
PGR3, Forza Motor Sport, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon and Dead Rising isn't really a shooter.
Both consoles will have loads of shooters and most games will be shared across consoles so its a completely mute point. =============
In theory, I'm what most would call a "Sony Fanboy", but I'm not COMPLETELY biased. I give things a chance. I do own pretty much every console since the NES (every semi-major one anyways), except the XBox (and the current gen ones which I will be getting at least two, eventually).
But when you say that you expect the PS3 to be as successful as the PS2, I think you're way off. It is a much much more powerful system and the true potential may never be reached. It'll be a decent fixture for modders and tweakers (similar to the PSP scene, but... more power). BUT, I don't think it will be nearly as successful as the PS2 OR the PS1. There will be great games, don't get me wrong, and I'm looking forward to playing every one of them, but the odds of it being the smash the predeccesors were are very slim.
Personally, the XBox 360 has better games, and has better games coming in the short future than the PS3. If you can, I'd recommend buying both consoles, because I'm sure you will miss the 360 if you get rid of it... Who knows how things will turn out, maybe PS3 will end up with the upper-edge on the 360, I hope so, but I doubt it. =============

lol the 360 is nearing the end of its time? Thats why many PS3 only titles are coming out for the 360 and MGS4 and FF XIII might be coming to the 360. IMO you can never have too big if a selection of games. lol there are millions of gamers out there who all like differnet kinds of games how can you please all these gamers when you only have 3 or so good titles(referring to the PS3 here)?

Couldnt agree more. =============
I think that my heart is saying I'm a Sony fanboy. =============
I think that my heart is saying I'm a Sony fanboy. Then you should go for the ps3. It seems your mind is already made up anyway.

a decent shaped controller,
Actually the 360's controller is the only controller that rivals (IMO surpasses) the dual shock........uh....i mean sixaxis (whatever they're all the same controller) =============
I told you to not get the 360. =============
When did you tell me ElDom lol and can people keep giving their opinions and comment please :) =============
I think that my heart is saying I'm a Sony fanboy.
I would have to agree with you, because in reality there is nothing lacking on the 360, if anything it's proved it can do games better. The only things that could justify the increased price (not to mention the loss you will take selling a used system) is if you were a hardcore Sony fanboy, needed a blu-ray player, or had no computer and wanted a cheap alternative....but still not that cheap as you can put together a PC that will run linux better then the PS3 for under $600.
360 is far from dead, and pretty much has the exact same lineup of games as PS3 at the moment, barring some exclusives on both sides....I would at least wait till it goes down in price. I'm kinda a japanophile/sony lover but am still not going to buy one untill it's at least $400 after taxes....so a while off yet... =============
Well IMO the cost of the PS3 is completely justified for what you are getting and I want to play PS2 games like GT4, Final Fantasy X/X-2/XII, Suikoden IV, Breath of Fire etc. =============
well... the 360 is just too bland for me. all it has it LIVE and a couple flasgship games like halo and Gow... that about it. the ps3 does have prior knowledge of gaming since the ps2 was pure win. the ps3 will be much more than a gaming console for me
im loading all my music onto it and hooking that ***** up to my 5.1 surround. its a shame though that my tv is 720p :-/
also h4x will come and ill load all my avis onto it.... or just boot into linux and play my avi's... oh god my ps3 is gonna rock
-= Double Post =-
i wouldnt trade in my ps2 for a ps3. my ps2 is staying put cz of h4x. i might fix up my broken ps2 and trade that in =============

This is exactly what I'm trying to say about the 360. I'm planning on putting my entire music collection on the PS3 cos having to stream music from my PC with 360 is a pain in the ass and consumes even more electricity. And there is nothing wrong with 720p :) it still looks great
@ ElDom - You are right, well it's obvious I made the wrong choice! Good job I can rectify it! =============

I bet everyone else though that too. =============

Yeah, I guess I got over cookie-cutter jap-rpg's along time ago....but the most cookie cutter'ish jap RPG of them all is on 360, made by the team that invented the jap-rpg....so i'll play that for nostalgic value, feels like a crazy mix of ff III and ff VII (NA versions).
Anyways, 360 has pretty much the exact games as PS3 at the moment, and the exclusives that are comming up are really not all that genre defying, just different flavours on gametypes that are already out there, but just go by a different franchise name.
As it stands 360 doesn't need to be hacked to play your avi's....a program called TVersity will encode your divx, svid, RM, etc to .wmv on the fly and allow for your 360 to stream them over your network. It's not perfect yet, but gets better with new releases and works for 90% of content...
or buy a $150 modded xbox if you want the ultimate media beast....
Anyways, it's moot I suppose, I just don't see the point unless you need a blu-ray player... =============
Well if you're talking about Enchanted Arms it's great. TVersity sucks with Vista though and I myself ain't too fussed about AVIs. =============

No, I was talking about Blue Dragon...thought that was obvious, sorry... =============
Ah no. =============
In my opinions, choosing the XBox360 over the PS3 for Gears of War and other old great games while missing out on what you actually want to play was the most fatal mistake anyone would ever make. Like... I want to play Gran Turismo HD Concept and hi-res 1080p contents on my console... and I had a choice between all three consoles... and I knew which one had what (the 360 can be modded for pirated games and the Wii had a modchip) but I still chose the PS3... because it has what I need and not what others think is cool. I hope that helped. :) =============
I didn't choose the Xbox 360 for Gears of Ware, I've played Gears of War and as far as I could see there was nothing special about it and it's over-hyped. There was nothing I could see which justifies all the hype about it. I think that I always wanted the PS3 but got the 360 because people kept telling me to get it. Just because they thought I should have it didn't mean it was right for me. =============
Well im gonna quote myself from another topic about the same thing. Read it it might save you from making a terrible mistake.
Seriously whats up with poeple these days? This is the second topic I have seen where someone is willing to trade all there consoles they own for something they have no reason for wanting(or at least no reasons were given). Do you want a PS3 just because of the Sony name?
Without giving any info on how the PS3 will benefit you or any real reasons for wanting one then I would say its not worth giving up all your consoles for something you dont have any reasons for wanting.
Id suggest researching the PS3 and see what it can do(only a google search away or just look at the PS3 info sticky guide at this forum) then come back with reasons for wanting the PS3 so you can get some more helpful replies. =============
I want the PS3 for the following:
To play Playstation 2 games
Blu-ray
Media capabilites (store my music library, upgrade HDD)
To be rid of pointless gamer score and idiots on Xbox Live
To be free of freezing and sometimes laggy frame rate with 360 =============

Good you have reasons.
So you know UK PS3 has problems with PS2 games like 42% are playable atm.
By blu-ray you mean the player right? Ya the blu ray player is great(I love this on my PS3 since I can actually use it the way Sony intended) only if you own a good HDTV(1080p) to experience it the way Sony intended. If you dont its not as good as you might think but still good nonetheless.
Ya upgradeable HDD is nice but will it cost more money. Being able to store media isnt anything new as you can already do it on your xbox 360 but the PS3 does make it easier.
Wow first person I have seen who doesnt like the Gamer score(I personally love getting points for doing things in games its like a virtual pat on the back) but the PS3 doesnt have them so you will like that. As for getting rid of the idiots from xbox live thats not gonna happen as you know there idiots everywhere. But most PS3 games dony have mic support and poeple dont use mics much so you will play online with idiots you just wont talk with them.
You wont be free of laggy framerate issues as thats not the 360 or PS3s fault its the games. PS3 has games with laggy framerate issues as well(Untold Legends Dark Kingdom being one of them). As for the freezing issues im not sure it took me about 6months for my 360 to freeze on me only had my PS3 for 2weeks so no freezes yet but I bet it will happen.
After reading your reasons for wanting a PS3 I would still HIGHLY recommend not buying one because at the end of the day the PS3 is just a video GAME console yet in your reason for buying one you didnt list any games. Also you will be paying more money to only to get a Blu-ray drive+PS2 games since those are the only 2 new things you want the PS3 will offer you.
Just so you know im not tring to discourage you from buying a PS3 or sound like a MS fanboy I just wouldnt want to see you lose your xbox 360 for a PS3 and be disappointed with your PS3. I bought a PS3 and will admit I was disappointed big time tho I made the money back in 3 days of work so its all good as for you you will be giving up your 360. =============
What's your gamertag PSPSam? =============
The thing is media is important to me and 20GB is crap when I have gigabytes of media and money is no object as I have plenty of it. There are loads of PS2 games I want to play and they will eventually be compatible. My gamertag is NthVenus. =============
If money is no object then why are we having this debate. Otherwise buy a PS2 it is 100% compatible with PS2 games. =============
I have a PS2 already but for me the PS3 can do everything. =============
No, it can't. It can't play Xbox 360 exclusives. Which would be the main reason to keep your 360. =============
Wow wow exclusives big deal. =============
lol
What do you buy a console for then? =============
Bah for enjoyment of course. =============
But with the amount of multiplatform games identical on both consoles surely you buy one or the other based on their exclusives. =============
Well I really want Final Fantasy XIII. =============
He will not listen to what we have to say he has already made up his mind. He wants a console to watch all his pron on. Otherwise there would be no debate. I really think that he wants a PS3 for FFXIII and probably nothing else save KH3 or like I stated before pron. I am done trying to convince people to wait for a price drop and better games. As we have regrettably learned, people will not listen to reason and will make up their minds on their own without the influence of others. =============
ORLY! Lol,now that is a funny comment! No,the PS3 is not my pron actually  I have the :PC: for that. =============
Well you will be waiting quiet a while for FFXIII (and theres even rumours that its coming to the 360) =============
It's worth the wait. =============
But why buy the console now when there is a chance of a price drop before that and it will have more features and better PS2 support by then. =============
Because I want it now to play RFoM, Ridge Racer 7, and Motorstorm. =============
But you said exclusives dont matter. =============
Oh you all confusing me lol with this, it's simple I want the PS3 for everything it has to offer. =============
Get one then. Its obvious you already have your mind made up. =============
Yes I think I will be getting one. =============
