For some reason I can't install F.E.A.R's demo at all. The installation program crashes instantly after the InstallShield pops up and does something for the first time. I tried to google to see if other people have the same problem but couldn't find any.
The error message is: Unhandled Exception. Error Number: 0x80040706. Description: Object reference not set. Setup will now terminate". Not that usefull, I suppose..
I'm wondering if Windows 2003 could be the reason for this but I think such a large scale problem wouldn't have gone unnoticed. Any tips or ideas? =============
Check minimal system requirements (you never know).
I have installed it on an Windows XP x64 successfully (which is Win03 SP1 based), so it's prolly not the issue.
Oh... The install program requires Admin rights to execute properly, although it shouldn't crash if you don't have them... =============
Thanks for the reply. As you suggested, I'm fairly sure that OS isn't the problem. I've admin rights too, so that isn't it either. I have tried downloading the file few times, just in case, but corrupted file doesn't seem to be case in this.
Maybe it's the InstallShield causing the trouble. I remember a case where InstallShield left something in the registry which prevented it from running succesfully next time but I just can't remember what the registry key was. =============
Take a look in your temp directory. The thing that I find crashes installshield is if there are old installshield files still floating in temp after a failed or aborted install. =============
I got it installed by it crashes when I start a new game. LOL. I even reinstalled XP thinking that my old install was finally screwed up. No help though. Buggy demo.
It runs good enough on my laptop though. Quite demanding however. The 6800 Go is stretched pretty far on this one. =============
Just solved the problem. After trying to install the latest Catalysts and receiving an acces denied error before installation started, I decided I could do something about it. It didn't take much. I just killed all InstallShield's processes and updated the iKernel.
Now everything is installing just fine and dandy :) =============
