Special Edition Also Includes:
* The official making of QUAKE 4
* QUAKE 2
* QUAKE 2 Expansion Packs: Reckoning and Ground Zero
I don't know about other people, but the expansion packs alone make the extra $10 worth it. (They're rather difficult to find) :) =============
Sounds great. Now, if I could only find the original Quake and expansions also... =============
Yeah I wish they had the original quake as well. Surely that would not have been a big deal.
I wish Raven would also/was also allowed to make some tiny modifications to Q2 to make it look way better that would be awesome.
Of course I already have quake2 and ground zero mission pack so...that only leaves one =============
Hell, I wish they'd put in the original Quake and expansions instead. In my opinion, the original was just a better single-player game, and it's a bit late to get anything out of Quake2 multiplayer. =============
Wonder if they'll do that for the X360. Splitscreen o-op would be nice. =============

True, but with Q4 being based on the Q2 plotilne, their choice makes sense. =============

Funny, guess there's no way to account for personal taste... :) I don't agree, I thought Q1 was very...well... Brown. A mostly brown game. And not particulary logical. A few of the levels were interesting and unique (the low-gravity secret level being one of them), but none really made much sense. They were too linear, it was all just, live until you get 'til the end, and then do the same with the next one and the next again. The hub nature of Q2 was more interesting, the levels were generally brighter and more logical in a way, though the technical limitations of the time stopped the game from being truly realistic I guess. Simply wasn't possible to add much more geometry than what was already there or the game would have chugged badly on the hardware of the time. As if it didn't do just that I might add. Q2 on PowerVR PCX2 wasn't all that fun. :D =============
Q1 was fun, but it made no sense at all. I actually thought Q2 was pretty decent storywise if you actually took the time to hear the story. Anyway that is my 2 cents. =============

Well, I'd agree with that, but I'd also add that Quake 2 was boring to play. I'm not quite sure of the difference between the two games that made me like Quake 1's gameplay more, but I did. =============
For me Q2 was a major disappointment after Q1. =============
Agreed. Q1 is still my all-time best gaming experience on a PC, due to the gameplay. It's the player physics that does it most for me. Co-op out of the box (man, spending days on end with my brother on Voodoo-equipped PCs trying to beat the game on Nightmare faster than the last time, those were the gaming times of my life) and completely unbalanced weapons (which just made it plain more fun) back the player physics up.
I've not captured that magic since, mainly due to the have-to-be-hacked-in-later-by-fans co-op which never quite works properly. If only Half-Life 2 was co-op from the start *daydreams* =============

Just throw my 2 cents worth I found it the other way around. I really did not care for Q1. I played it. It was ok at best. But really loved Q2. Maybe its for my be-loved BFG and Rail Gun :) I liked the music in Q2 better as it gave me the feeling of grabing that gun and kill-n some strogg butt. Even though I love NIN! And I thought that Q1 was way too brown. Q2 had at least some mix of colors. And the story line of Q2 was a tad better. But thats my opinion and we all have our own... meh :) =============
I enjoyed both Q1 and Q2, but Quake 1 didn't have any story at all. There was some doggerel on the box about an enemy called Quake sending in troops through slipgates. That made sense for a few minutes while you played the first level. Then it was "Wtf is going on here? I'm in a mediaeval castle with monsters." Then each world would begin with one level of fighting Enforcers etc and it would be back to random mediaeval levels until the end when you had to find a way to deal with a giant pork pie. I enjoyed it, but didn't spend much time trying to work out what the point was. =============
If you really liked Q1 you should totaly download this and give it a go.

Sorry I could not find the actual site it might not even exist. Oh btw they made a movie that attempted to tie Q1 together and made a story out of it. It is about 100x better than the actual Q1 story. =============
I loved Doom but thought the whole Quake series was pretty rubbish (apart from graphically). So there. =============

i loved Nehahra :)
it's still there, at http://www.planetquake.com/nehahra/ but you'll have to search for alternative places to get the files as they're all hosted on FilePlanet =============
For me Q2 was a major disappointment after Q1.
Agreed. I only played the Q1 demo disc I bought (yes, purchased), but still had a blast. Q2 was just, uhh... goofy in comparison, not nearly as dark and brooding. =============
I loved Quake2 and I am a big fan of Raven so I have some exceedingly high hopes for this game. :) =============
I'd definately be getting that version. Just hope Quake 4 doesn't become another Doom 3. =============

That sums up my feelings for Q4. =============
Edge of Oblivion that came with the first Quake 1 expansion (Scourge of Armagon?) was the best damn DM map ever. Friends and I spent hours playing that map, laughing our asses off. =============
Did The Edge (DM map as well) in Q2 have anything to do with that? Homage or other relation? It was a very fine map as well.
At least I think that is what it was called... =============

Yep, it was just a direct port from the Q1 map. =============
I too would love Quake1 and expansions to be included!
I purchased my 1st 3D card... the verite v1000 for Vquake!! Dos based accelerated Quake.
Luckily living in Ottawa I played on Zoid's Q1 servers, helping out with beta testing the net-code "in the beginning" Q1 CTF is/was my favorite online gaming experience.
CTF with the grapple was the most ingeniuos addition ever!! Ahh the memories schooling the young-uns!!!
Wang. =============
be good if they did a quake-doom3_engine project similar to what valve did with HL and source. Games of that gen are like pr0n flicks anyway(with notable exceptions) - who watches them for the story line? =============
Quake1 is so much fun  that I was replaying it about a year ago. Just tried glQuake for kicks and couldn't stop (i think I was half way trough Far Cry at that point) , a bug near the end made me stop before finishing, but somehow that game was more fun than the recent titles
perhaps I was just nostalgic or whatever, but it did have pace, simplicity, and atmosphere
and is someone asked me to replay something and if this was in the mix with all the latest and greatest, I would be replaying Quake again... so there... =============
All you Q1 fanatics/nostalgiac people really ought to do yourselves a favor and try out the nehara mod it was really cool when I played it (of course that was a long while ago). =============
