like the UT99/Unreal ones that make the game look realy realy good, infact better texture wise the some of the games today :P =============

q2 doesnt use glide its an opengl gameWell, yes, but then again in 3dfx's case, no. The MiniGL game driver was in reality nothing but a OpenGL->Glide wrapper, so it's really only fitting to run the game using another wrapper working Glide->OpenGL on modern cards.
It should work without it, though, but maybe there are some driver quirk that causes it not to? Haven't attempted to run Q2 in years. =============

Why on EARTH would anyone want to do that?
All that 3dfx's stupid OGL-glide wrapper did was slow things down in the translation process, plus it only supported a subset of OGL. I don't think you can even run Q2 using the wrapper, you certainly can't run Q3 that's for sure.
And what's with this nutty idea that the wrapper improves textures?! 3dfx's old glide-optimized hardware only supports a max of 256*256 pixel textures, that simply isn't enough to make things look close to today's games, much less even BETTER! That's just mad. =============

Did you install the OpenAL files as...
These files are REQUIRED as of Q2E 040., otherwise no sound will be produced in-game.
You would also need OpenAL capable drivers for your audio hardware.
PS. I am gonna try out this Quake2Evolved thing as well. Might be fun. Quake 2 was the definitive jawdropper (at the time) that got me interested in gaming again. =============
Why on EARTH would anyone want to do that?I dunno'... For the cosmic karma boost of having things come full circle?
It was just a comment on the irony of the situation, OpenGL->Glide->OpenGL, as I didn't know why the original poster wanted a Glide wrapper for Q2.
Edited for typos. =============
Yeah anything from id software is not somthing you want to try to wrap thru Glide. They are totally OGL.
There are many games from the late '90s that DO benefit from a Glide wrapper. Diablo 2 certainly does, Wing Commander Prophecy, some of the NFS games, and there's even a really great N64 emulator graphics plugin (Glide64) that works excellent. =============
Diablo 2 certainly does...
In what way? =============
In what way?Havent played Diablo 2 in ages, but it was originally supposed to support 3D accelerated graphics only through Glide. D3D performed terribly (a Voodoo 2 was at least on par with a GeForce DDR) and had glitches as it apparently was hacked into the release at the last minute. At least the early patches didn't change the renderer much (if at all) and only dealt with gamplay enhancments, balance, and server tweaks, so I doubt that the later ones would have changed this situation. =============
In what way?
Like Zaphod said, D2 was designed for Glide. It was delayed to the point when D3D became very popular so they had to release it with D3D support. It never worked well. Even a Radeon 9700 can have speed problems with Diablo 2. You also miss a few effects without Glide.
If you use zeckensack's glide wrapper you get modern filtering quality (Voodoo2 was blurry crap), solid speed, and all the extra graphic effects. =============
