looks good...IMO.....
=============
I don't know, I always thought the sequel was going a little too cartoonish on the enemies. Technology wise it still looks pretty good, though.
=============
I'm definitely looking forward to this game. Serious Sam is so wonderfully mindless and satisfying on a base level.
=============
I like their monsters :)
I hope that my computer can run it well.
=============
he 2K Games rep told us that the "large" monsters were about the size of the final boss in Second Encounter and that the final boss in SS2 is being pitched to the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest creature in a videogame.

from IGN article :lol:

- must have this - :mrgreen:
one more
We're told that one area has a city made entirely out of wood, and Sam can level it completely. Who hasn't had a day where they wished they had the power to do that? Sounds like a great stress reliever for the white collar Napoleon. And thanks to a vast draw distance, you're able to see the fruits of your labor from a long way out (as well as the usual waves of bloodthirsty enemies).

aaaahhhh ... finally something for true gaming bliss and relaxation

Looks good - can't wait.

This game will be my true love....
=============
The Sam-O-Gram rocks. I almost pissed myself. That's so funny
=============
heh.... i cant wait for it. i know i gonna buy it.... no way i gonna DL this even for testing.
lets say its patriotic thing. :lol:

/me looks around for his "Proud to be Croat" t-shirt.....:wink:
=============
well this is the >only< Croatian product that you can buy here. It was than, it is still now. :| I am buying it as I did the last two :grin:

--- not that you can buy it already, but there is nothing else at the moment, and I doubt something will perhaps appear in a month or two...
=============
ya i know.... TBH, what i really wanna see is how will people compere it D3 or HL2....

Well, it's not really comparable to those, kinda like apples vs. oranges, gameplay-wise.

if you use fun factor, then its OK to compere any game....

Do we need to compare it to Doom3 at all then? :lol:
=============
personally i don't much like 'primary' shooters. i like more variety of activities alongside. like a NOLF.

like a NOLF.

What race is that? :razz: :wink:

offcourse not.... but i like cheap shots at D3... :twisted:

I'm so excited. There are a bunch of good games coming out soon. Why do they always come out near the same time?

I would like it here and there. I would like it anywhere.

:lol:

42 levels in the full game :eek:

Its Murphy's law :) And to add you will probably be very busy with your personal life at that time so it will be even harder to play all of the games... or at least that is how my luck seems to run... :)

well I am ready for full experience just need to come back from work

:cool:
=============
Quick tip: when flying a vehicle your jump button makes you go up and crouch key makes you go down. :oops:
=============
so what is the first feedback?
=============
so what is the first feedback?
I liked, very fun! The whole "enemies are a bit too cartoony" comment/complaint is valid, but the cartoony bit worked for me as it's just meant to be a fun slaughter ride.

The slaughter ride bit they got right, it feels like Serious Sam to me but better.

Then again, that's just from a quick 15 minute playthru that was mainly working out all my binds. (And I had to rebind all my mouselooks for some reason. :???: )

It's got the bazillion and a half graphic options to choose from, so I think I'll go play with those and see if I can't find a benchmark in it for Hanners. ;)
=============
n/m. slow day.
=============
So anyone figured a way to get some framerates out of it other than fraps?

what are the main visual differences between the minimum, recommended and full experience specs? Or is that just a guide and not actual profiles?

To benchmark: record a demo, turn on demo benchmarking (bmk_bBenchmarkDemos = 1 in the console), play the demo

bmk_bOnScreenReport = 1 gives you an OSD with stats. It puts the full info in the console when you're done.

In-game, prf_bShowFPS = 1 in the console.
=============
Thanks Rys, have you heard of this one?

i don't know if this has been posted before,but heres how you benchmark SS2.Go to console and type "/dem_bprofile=1" and press enter.
Then go to demo section of the menu and run any demo and look in the console after that.There will a benchmark results section. :o
=============
Thanks Rys, have you heard of this one?

I'm fairly sure that's for Second Encounter and other Serious Engine 1 games, not Serious Engine 2.
=============
Soooooooooo fun. I love these games! I'm buying the full game for sure and I'm going to have a blast with the coop. Such mindless fun, I wouldnt have it any other way!
=============
a OK... lets see now, I am tired and my brain is blocked but...

How do I continue past the second door at the beginning.

as far as I can see I have killed everything, picked up everything, at the beginning and when I went through the first door (or the electrict cage doors thingy) ...

apart from that the first impressions

the bad:

I liked old guns better
of the new ones the double shotgun feels good straight, and the rocket launcher is fine

the revolvers are worse, the uzi guns are worse, the chainsaw is pathetic compared to the old one :twisted: and the multi barrel shotgun... so so...

the parrot is great however

other than that... floor/ground textures same as SS1 - not bad but no improvement... city overall looks very good despite that, (hey I like even now how SS1 looks) the "fountain" at the beginning WTF is that supposed to be? water? whatever...

the most important part though, it plays well and it will be fun like the old ones, so that is great

now how do I pass through the second doors?

Oh yes one more bad thing - no falling off the roof/landing platform??? what is that - to ensure easy linear progress? Ehhh... don't like it, but I can ignore it. The core is good and that is what matters at least so far.

--- an idea just hit me - this is the whole demo!

well AAAAAAhhhhh... that explains it :|

When can I get the game :lol:

October 10th... :sad:

ughhhhhhh
=============
LMAO! No, that's not the whole demo, you still have a good portion of it left, and some fun battles against some BIG baddies!

You have to kill everything, make sure you are killing all of the airborne enemies too. Those floater things and all. You dont need to grab everything I dont believe, just keep killing everything you see.
=============
just to add... luckily the end is not so near :phew: I now remebered all those different shots so I didn't see those environments...

anyhow when I entered the game again and said "to continue" it started behind those doors, so it might be some late bug, I dunno...

further impressions...

flying - excellent!

minigun - even better somehow has a heavier touch to it, bombs are nice addition too

but the game plays as it should so that it the most important point http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif
=============
I actually thought the shotgun was a bit overpowered, it made taking out the flyers easy.
=============
Was having a fair bit of fun, but then the game crashed on me....but I had to go anyway, so it was probably a good thing :)

Anyway, did you guys find the football-watching neanderthals? :)
=============
I havent done much searching around, I noticed when I beat it and it did the score total about three secrets so I wonder what those are. I'll probably cover all of the level tomorrow. I'll be buying this, this keeps my attention and is fun, something I havent had for awhile with an FPS outside of CS:S, but that's only do to league play.
=============
I actually thought the shotgun was a bit overpowered, it made taking out the flyers easy.

You didn't actually have to aim. Just point it in the general direction and -poof- they're gone.

But given the number of drones/flyers that appeared at once even that early into the game that was probably intentional.
=============
God - please grant me my adsl connection faster than normal. pretty please + I will take out all those pesky blasphemer's for you! thanks in advance, yours truly Ignorance.
=============
Demo is pretty nice.
Played for a few minutes.
On my 2ghz (oced 2500+) axp and 512 ram and 6600GT, it plays nice with the settings it chose.. 1024 and some odd.. looks good with normal rendering and a bit better with HDR enabled.
The HDR in SS is way more subtle then far cry.. I like it.
Can't wait untill full game it out, and I have a more ram and a 16 pipe card.
=============
I actually thought the shotgun was a bit overpowered, it made taking out the flyers easy.
btw, I love the pic for serious level - :lol:.. anyhow that will surely make taking htem out quite hard ;)

when u start... on first level, behind one garage doors.... its big.... cant miss it when u enter there....

Me not likey likey...

I was a big fan of the first two (FE/SE). This felt close but not the same. The weapons did not have any recoil or any other effect to make them seem real. The revlover in the first one was far better. The orange gun and the revolving shot gun just dont seem to be worthy additions. The other weapons are fine. Whats the point of having rag doll phyisc if most of time the eneimes chunk up? The demo level felt kind of crampt...not like the wide open areas in the first two. Did not care for the console interface on the profile section. Rebinding the keys was a bit touchy the first time through. Not sure if it was me but I seem to be missing sounds (when I would hit enemies they would just explode with no sounds). Why do I jump every time I touch some objects? I did not care for the direction of the art. I could do on with more "bad stuff"... but dont really need to.

There was good to it as well. The over all action felt the same. The artwork eventhoungh not my liking was well done. So I sure hope they posish this a bit more....
=============
Very fun. Runs well on my old banger (XP@2.3GHz, 9800 Pro). The only weirdness I noticed was that sometimes I'd find myself suddenly looking vertically upwards into the sky all of a sudden. The widescreen mode seems a bit odd too... will double check.

Just a note for Envy24 users - you have to use Sensaura/Game Mode, otherwise it chugs.
=============
i was surprised how good my 9500pro did.... and i really really liked all the action....
i miss this kind of games, its fun and mindless shoot'em'all.... relaxiation after hard work...cant wait for full version...

http://www.forumeye.it/invision/html//emoticons/woohoo.gif
=============
The widescreen mode seems a bit odd too... will double check.

It's fine, I just chose the wrong resolution. 1280x768 works great, as does 1680x1050. Well done Croteam. :)
=============
Hmm... I'm experiencing hard locks every time under a minute after starting actual gameplay. Until it locks up I also get severe stuttering, actually stuttering is not the right word, more like locking up for half a second every two seconds. This is the lowest I've tried: everything at maximum except no AA, no HDR, 8x AF and no EAX (1024x768).

I have a P4 3.2C + 1gb ram + X850XT PE so I ought to be able to crank it up all the way (except HDR of course).

Worst of all, is that it doesn't fall back to desktop so I have to reboot. Is anyone else experiencing something like this?

EDIT: Windows XP SP2, Catalyst 5.9, absolutely no other apps running in the background (and I only have 11 processes running too). The demo is installed in a dedicated partition (so no fragmentation) very close to the outer edge of the HD for speed.
=============
my only problem yesterday was this "level lock" that I couldn't get through, and got through the second gates after re-entering the game. Otherwise the game played just fine.

I have X850XT a 3000+ A64, win 2K, 5.7 drivers.... all on nforce4.
=============
I've had no lock-ups with it or crashes on Bubbles. :???:

Bubbles 3000+ Venice @ 2.43Ghz, TT Venus 12, K8NS Ultra-939, OCZ EL platinum rev 2 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC3200, 256MB Radeon X800 TT (520/560), Audigy2, Altec-Lansing ADA885, TV, DVDR, 80GB, 200GB
=============
This is odd. I've ran the autodetect thingie where it runs all the pixel shader tests etc. (and in the console there is a mention how it is 60% faster than a 6800 :) and now I'm able to go 1150x864 with everything at maximum (except HDR) with no locks. Yay!

This demo is seriously (a-ha!) addictive. I've beat it four times back to back now and I'll be trying out Serious difficulty later on just to rack up the points. You know what this game reminds me? Those old side/vertical scroller shoot 'em ups. I used to hit the arcades very often when I was younger and the feeling is the same: MUST... INSERT... ONE... MORE... COIN!!!! Thankfully now I won't have to go hungry to play more. ;)

Speaking of which...
=============
Druga...did you saw the banner? and heard what voice says? i almost died laughing....

"neanderthal football fans" and that banner.... prejebeno..... :lol:

Coming out in 2 weeks do don't get your hopes up. Basically I agree, the animation, level design and art style just don't grab me like the first 2 did. It has all the checkboxes for graphical "effects", but as Half Life 2 demonstrated, artistic ability has a lot to say in what the final product looks - and feels like. SS was novel back in the day, but this feels like a distant third party with a souped-up engine got the license.

A big "meh" here.

Weird thing I forgot to mention, but when I first ran that test I had the 5.8 cats installed and it defaulted to 1024x768. After installing the 5.9 set I re-ran it and it defaulted to 1280x960. :???:

Well that going put a damper on it then! Maybe some of this stuff can be addressed in the first patch??? Oh well... /me loads up FE for old times sake :)

figured it out second time I played it :lol:

anyhow... few more observations... netriscia - I think I might turn her off in the full game, I liked the old system better...

than music seemed to be better the last time than in this demo, but let's see until the next one comes, plus the idea about extra lives and score kicks some serious ass!!! I love it, it is like looong time ago, wander why this was never a part of FPS genre? I love it!!!

as for the score, one round on hard level I died, and had a bigger score than when I went through the same thing again without dying?? more enemies or what? when you respawn, I guess they do not give enough score credit for not dieing on the level, think it is only 1000 on the hard level.

Anyhow - great!

I think i'll play it a few more times in the days to come... first try serious level, and than see how fast can I do it :grin:
=============

Wolf3D had scores and lives and so did DOOM in some of the betas. Many DOOM-clones also had scoring. IIRC both Ken's labyrinth and Corridor 7 did.
=============
For f*ck's sake, when are people going to stop this asshattery? It's a goddamn 250MB file that's already compressed, you don't need to put the goddamn thing in a zip archive to save another 3 MB!

Wow, I wasn't expecting this. Checking it out now.

And yeah, that's quite annoying Crusher.

we are discussing the game here :razz:

I would advise anybody having performance issues to change the api to opengl , it boosts performance somewhat:

gfx_iAPI = 1; opengl
gfx_iAPI = 2; d3d

..and using a mipmap bias of 0(when i first started the game it would use a mipmap bias of -1 ???):

tex_fLODBias = 0;

you can change these attributes in the sam.ini , it's in the content/serioussam2 folder
=============
For some reason, I can't hear any of the gun sounds in the game. The music is blaring, some sound effects are loud, and most of the sound effects are completely muted.

I just have stereo sound, and I have my speakers set to stereo in the sound control panel in windows. Not sure what the problem is. I'm using the Realtek integrated sound on an NForce3 motherboard.
=============
heee... lovely, finally finished the demo on serious level and it it great... now after a bit more playtime it somehow reminds me of "mars attacks" the flying alien explosions are really lovely :)

after playing more, certain first negative impressions dissapear, even the yellow gun can find it's uses and only revolvers + chainsaw were significantly better before (so that I still have this 'meh' feeling) other than that... pure fun and wheee October 10th I am seriously waiting for you ...

Same here.

As for the game, this isn't for me any more. Way to chaotic and cartoony.
I'm more a Far Cry Hl2 player.

heh..... i loved FC and HL2 is close, but SS2 simply gives me what i need sometimes....
i come home and i start shooting all the bad guys.... no thinking, just reflexes....
much better then that POS D3.....:twisted:
=============
IMHO ss2 demo is a big disappointment. I really loved the first two ss and prefered them over painkiller but this demo is just very medicore.

Pretty much the whole flair of the first sesams is gone and it's not much fun unfortunatley.
=============
Ill wait untill the full game is here before judging.
I thought it was pretty good, not sure about some of the weapons (over/under powered) and the graphics didn't really seem all that great without that many things going on at once.
The hdr didn't seem all that impressive imo
Perhaps an indoor level will show case it in better light (pub intended).

Pretty much the whole flair of the first sesams is gone and it's not much fun unfortunatley.

Agreed

it was fun until you get to a seriously challenging bit, but then I was too bored to try again. I'm talking about the bit in the plane contraption. Helicopters with protruding parts, I mean wth !!

And I detest platform jumping for the sake of it. Heck, floating platforms suck in any game....

Maybe it'll get better in co-op but its lacking as a single player game imo

Quinn summed it up perfectly over at EB (http://69.93.88.162/forum/viewtopic.php?p=166681#166681):

I'm disapointed. The first one and the expansion are way better than this shit. It's like Serious Sam: The Hedgehog. It's not Serious Sam. :?
Perfect! :lol:

Jumping puzzles never work well in FPS's. I don't know why developers insist on putting them in games at all. I mean, here we are touting the most realistic phsyics in gaming today (In general, not this game specifically) yet we still can't make a simple jump from one platform to another? Tell me, when was the last time you missed a jump in real life?

This isn't the 1980's anymore, time to let the old 2D platform gameplay go.

Definitely.

And when are we going to have more games where you can look down and see your feet? To date I've only seen Chronicles of Riddick do this.

You need to play more Thief 3 ;)

Anyway, personally I think you guys may be overreacting WRT platform jumping in the SS2 demo: there's 5 jumps in the entire level. This isn't Xen or anywhere close to that. Not to mention you get an auto-save immediately before the platforms so the frustration is kept to the absolute minimum. I don't know, must have been my Mario Bros. upbringing but I actually enjoy some platform jumping in FPS games as long as it isn't the main gameplay feature (i.e. Xen).

Also, Serious difficulty level for teh win!!(eleven)!!1!

Tresspasser let you look down at your boobs (Female character), but it sucked.

I agree, it was dissappointing.

Uggh, you had to bring that up.

Half Life is still one of the 3 best FPS I ever played, assuming you leave out Xen for precisely that reason.

The reason it bothers me is because you do see it in such a short demo. 5 jumps in that short of a time could end up being hundreds of jumps over the course of the full game, and that would be really annoying.

Besides, jumping puzzles are almost always thrown in in such a way that they feel fake and out of place. Especially when used frequently. I mean, I can't recall the last time I absolutely had to jump to do something in real life, and I'm a very outdoorsy kind of guy.

yeah, and they should allow more climbing in the game if you need to scale some heights. Totally needed imo, jumping like a kangaroo just doesnt do it for me !!!

Hahaha :)

No, 6'4" and 185lbs (About 84kilos for you people who use sane measurement systems). I'm so used to being able to look down and see my feet that it's extremely unrealistic to not be able to do it :)

Though even for those overweight people out there, you're definitely not used to looking down and just seeing the ground. Hell, when you look down in most games it feels like you're looking a little bit behind you, and you still can't see any part of your body.

I never get these numbers, so my question is how many METERS/CENTIMETERS are 6`4?
You know 1,70-1,82-1,90... .-)

Hehe, 1.93 meters :)

Can't believe I remembered to put the weight in metric, but didn't even consider the height...

heheh I know what you mean ingame - adds to realism - just had this funny image in my head of a fat guy running around trying to see his feet armed with a rocket launcher lol. I haven't played riddick yet! but the only real attempt I remember is a shadow in some games. IIRC FEAR demo had the arms on the ladder which wasn't bad... think it was fear??

I thought that CoR:EFBB did a really fantastic job of making you feel like you were playing as Riddick, even in first person mode. Aside from actually being able to see your legs and feet, the silhouette in your shadow is unmistakable, and he doesn't walk around all the time in a silly fighting stance. Riddick is definitely one of the coolest characters ever seen in a movie (particularly in the movie in which he originally appeared: Pitch Black), and I felt that this really translated fantastically to the game.

It just went gold.....I am having that un-easy feeling now....as that means any of the feedback from the demo probably was not listen too....

Atleast it will only be $30.

Just means it was a demo for advertising rather than a demo for feedback. I wouldn't expect anything to change for ship.

Yea i know I miss the old days were developers put out a demo, LISTEN to feedback and then made some changes prior to launch... :(

And yea its only "30 bucks" but for me I was going to buy this with out question as I was/am a big SS fan. The demo left such a stale taste in my mouth that I willl wait for reviews and see if the same issues exist that do in the demo. If its does..then I will probably wait till is on sale cheaper.. as for me the value would have declined....I liked Sam the way it was....

Riddick is the only movie-based game that's actually better than the movies it's based on.

QFT:D
I dont like Vin though... because of fast and furious :wink:
The game looks really great if you're into the whole doom 3 look.. with more light.
However, it's not as polished as doom, the graphics that is, I can see white dots in some places, not sure what's up with that.

I don't know. Personally, despite the low budget, I thought Pitch Black was just a great B+ monster movie.

I even liked Chronicles of Riddick more than I thought I would. I wouldn't call it a great movie, but it definitely was fun to watch.

I agree. I had watched Pitch Black "back in the day" in theaters but I skipped CoR for whatever reason. I recently purchased both movies on DVD and I actually enjoyed CoR. The ending was very surprising, satisfying, and lays the groundwork for a very interesting follow-up.
