Despite the fact there are currently no cards that support DX10, Crytek managed to pull off a demo at PDC 2005 using software layering to show what to expect when the DX update & cards are out. They used the Farcry environment to show:
Dynamic Day/Night Cycle
Fully interactive environments
Sunrays + Diffuse transmissions
Real-time soft shadows & Soft particles
Interactive/destructive environments
Volumetric clouds
and last but not least, Advanced shader technology!

pretty impressive....
now if i could only get cash to get new machine....:???: =============
The fully interactive environments are one of the most exciting things for me. I hate walking "through" shrubbery. =============
I agree CMAN, but also think everything else in that clip looks awesome. Dynamic Day/Night Cycles, Destructive Enviroments(nothing new I know but it looked kewl). Volumetric Clouds, Real time shadows.
Man .. When is Farcry 2 coming out again? =============
The last bit "advanced shader technology" made me laugh. I mean um.. well how did they do all that other stuff?
Anyway it looked awesome, but of course I will care more when I actually see something made on this technology released and playable and can then determine the impact it actually has. =============
