problem mp3 tags iTunes

Position: Home >> Life >> mac >> Text ¡¡
I like to keep my music on my computer very organized. But every once and a while iTunes decides to change the tags I have. For example, for my complete albums I have their track listed as track '1 of 10'. But sometimes I start listening to music and iTunes has changed it to track '1' but all the rest of the album still say 'of 10'.

Also, I only have the album title for my complete albums and not my singles so I remove the album title from the song. However iTunes likes to add the title back in with the track number. This gets very annoying that I have to reorganize my music every couple months. Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it??

Look for stray .m3u files among your music files

Im sorry but i dont know what that means. Does it mean my files are .mpu instead of .mp3? if so i just checked and all my music files are .mp3

I've seen similar problems with the Total Number of Tracks. Most often, I'll find that, upon playing, the Total Number Tracks goes to Blank, and the previously blank Album Artist field has been filled in with the Artist name. Drives me crazy, but can't figure out a fix.

No *.m3u files on my HD anywhere.

Thats exactly what happens with mine and i have no .m3u files either. I notice it happens when a new version of itunes is released but it sometimes happens randomly too.

Ditto this post. I spend hours carefully tagging all my music, looking up the track numbers for each album, only to have them erase if I click on the track. I have to readd them multiple times before they stick. It's driving me crazy!!

Anyone have a fix?

The problem I have with MP3 files is that the tags in an MP3 can be different than the information stored by iTunes. This is because iTunes stores information in the XML and ITL files, and MP3 files have their own information.

What I do to work with this is: Fix the tags to be what I want on MP3 files, then select the MP3 files, right click and choose Update ID3 Tags. Choose version 2.3 and click OK.

What this does is write the updates from the iTunes files into the MP3 files. Then your updates are saved in the MP3 files. This should make the problem go away.

Do you have WMP11 using your music?

This is WMP11 behavior: For example, for my complete albums I have their track listed as track '1 of 10'. But sometimes I start listening to music and iTunes has changed it to track '1' but all the rest of the album still say 'of 10'.

Windows Media Player has a setting to automatically update track info from the internet that may be your issue but should be disabled anyways. It may even change the ID3 tags if you select the mp3 in Windows Explorer and view the properties there.

This "feature" had me pulling my hair out for a while a few years back.

i tried this with some songs to see if it works but none of my other songs have changed tags yet. if i have songs that change and the ones i updated with 2.3 stay how i write it i'll let everyone know if this is the fix.
