I'm a pretty easy going person when it comes to products and services. I never send my steak back at a restaurant even if it comes to me well done when I ordered it medium rare.

...that said, I have never had a worse consumer experience (that remains unresolved after 4 months) than what I had with iKaput. Dating back to November 2007, I bought a replacement click wheel for my iPod mini. They first sent me a broken one, which I sent back and they have YET to send a replacement. I have called them, emailed them, posted requests through their website contact form and most recently had to submit a claim/complaint to the Division of Consumer Protection because of iKaput's non-responsiveness. My suggestion to every iPod owner: NEVER buy anything from these guys. If you send your iPod to them to fix it, they may fix it, but probably only to sell it on eBay or Craigs List. Don't do it. Apparently the owner is too busy writing books to actually pay attention to paying customers. :mad:

I will not use iKaput again either! They kept my kids' iPods for 2 months and now my son's will not even turn on (we sent it in with a audio jack problem).

I used iKaput about 2 years ago and we were pleased with their service. Something must have changed in the company since then. On Jan. 11th, I was called, OKed the repairs and my credit card was charged that day. I heard nothing for a few weeks, so I called. I was called back after leaving a few messages and they said they were waiting on a part. Then again, I didn't hear anything for weeks so I emailed/called, etc. When I finally got someone on the phone, because they answered when I called (they were not returning any of my messages), I was told the iPods would be in the mail that day or the next day, I waited a week, heard nothing, call/emailed back, etc. This happened several times. I was told at one time that they broke a larger part of my son's iPod trying to repair the audio jack, but that they would fix it and cover the additinal cost. Then again, no communication. I was beginning to wonder if we were ever going to get them back. Finally, we did get the iPods back on March 3rd. Almost 2 months after sending them in. My daughters iPod was fixed and works fine. My son's, that initally had a problem with the audio jack, will not even turn on now. I am trying to get our money back for the 'repair' on that one. Hopefully we will, however I will not send it back to iKaput and will never use their service again.
They took too long, they were not professional in their communication with us and my son's iPod came back in worse shape than it was when we sent it in.
Based on this last experience, I would NOT recommend iKaput for iPod repair.

Wow you guys have had some serious problems with iKaput.com. I've never heard of them if i need something iPod or Mac related I usually go to Macsales.com or iFixit.com

I mailed my IPOD for repair to IKAPUT in February, 2008. They called within days of receiving my IPOD. They advise the cost for repair would be $90 bucks which I paid. Within weeks of paying I could not get a person on the phone. I received few emails in the beginning of March that for a IPOD repair expert site were weird - IPOD “take a little while to repair because of the way they are built, and we want to make sure that we do a quality job.? For some reason they finally picked up the phone in early April. Two days in roll, they advised the Ipod would go out overnight courier service. They are not picking up the phone since they promised overnight service. I think they are a scam. what do you think?

They were realy quick to send the prepaid envelope. So i dropped my daughters ipod in the mail and 3 days later they called and said $160 for the repair and a two year warranty. And i should see it in 5-7 days. It been almost 4 weeks and nothing no calls no emails nothing. I keep calling the number on there website and all i get is the in box is full. So now i dont know what to do. I guess this is what i get for trusting a company online.

obviously deluxe247 is someone from ikaput.com.... that is really lame that ikaput makes fake blogs .... i sent 3 ipod videos in to ikaput.com and i tracked them all ... they all said they were shipped and signed for ... yet they dont have any of my ipods... now im out all of my pods

My story is much the same as what I've read here so far. My daughter sent off her ipod and it's dissappeared into the ikaput black hole.

I contacted them by email without identifiing as a current customer. I got an immediate response. It went like this:

"Yes sorry, our phone has been ringing non stop. So I aplogize. What questions do you have?"

Note that "we" did not specify if we had been answering the phone or not, just that it had been ringing.

So I sent my details in an email right away, this time it took 24 hrs for a reply:

"I apologize it should ship by Friday." I wrote back and said among other things that "Should" ship Friday was not good enough after a month.

That was the last I heard from them!

I have lodged a complaint with BBB and encourage you to do the same!
I am definately interested in legal action against this blight on th e-commerce society.

I sent in my 8gb 2cd Gen NanoTo iKaput over 6weeks ago for A "Free Diagnostic" Which they advertize takes 72 hrs Now they will NOT return emails, Or the iPod, and the Voice mailbox has been full on two lines for over a month. I contacted the local Utah police Dept Who were quite familiar with them.... Advised me to warn others that they are trouble to deal with.... I have a case number and Detectives are working on recovering my iPod.. I'm so depressed I didn't find this thread "or bother to look for it" before I ordered with these guys.
I went into a local apple store to find out if they could fix my audio jack, well they didn't but a very nice lady tells me about ikaput.com and how great they are. Normally I never buy from a web site without looking into them first, stupidly info coming from a real person allowed my guard to be lowered.
Anyway I went on to find an audio jack for my ipod video but none exists on the sight, determined to find a solution I went onto another page which tells you how to open the ipod with little trouble. Well as it turns out without some proper tools its easy to break things... like the fin screen, yes I cracked it while attempting to pop open the cover.
A positive I did get out of it is once opened I figured out that the jack was just loose and the screw needs to be tightened.
So I go back to ikaput looking to buy a new screen and some tools, I placed my order on April 14th, they took the money alright but as I’m sure you all can guess I’ve yet to receive the parts. All your stories have really put me in a funk as I still have no screen although the ipod does work I can't see anything :( Hopefully the last post on here is accurate and I will receive my parts soon, if not I’m totally willing to go in on the any legal action people are talking about. Thank you all for the info.

My tracking number says the exact same thing and it was supposedly shipped on May 8th. My I-Kaput saga is too long and ridiculous to explain so I'll keep it short. I sent them my Ipod back in OCTOBER. It's June and I don't have it back. They suck, have always sucked, and will suck for the rest of time. I can't believe they still have the website up and running even though they are apparently closing the business.

Give me a stinkin' break with this junk. This guy is running a BUSINESS. You don't close your business and end your source of income over a death. You put the pieces back together and you move on. His phones are off the hook and no emails are returned. His website states NOTHING about his business closing, etc. I have not heard a word from these pukes in months and I KNOW they are reading my emails because I use didtheyreadit.com.

In my eyes, that's a deliberate falsehood so that people feel sympathy and are more careful with insulting him because he ripped them off. I highly doubt this man's father died, and I believe he completely fabricated that statement to take the heat off the fact that he's a scam artist. I would suggest people continue with their complaints to him. This is just his excuse of saying "We're bankrupt." He's probably a guy who had a bunch of friends fix the iPod's. He's just a big scam artist, like investing in stocks out in Jamaica.

I sent Brandon Jones my iPod in March. He repeatedly charged me (totaling $300) for services that never occurred. I never received any form of a refund.
After my incessant emails, phone calls (this was when their phone did work) and complaints, I received a broken iPod after three months of waiting that appeared to have been harvested for parts.

Try calling the number if you really think it is such a great company. Notice it is disconnected.

You are lucky you were so taken advantage of.

They have had mine since October. I already bit the bullet and bought a new one. I called the Lindon police department a few days ago and they are working on this issue. They are very familiar with I-Kaput. Whoever did not get their I-Pod situation resolved I highly recommend you call them. 801-830-7242

I have sent many emails and tried all numbers (disconnected of corse) and his response was that it was mailed 13 JUN, but to give it a few more days due to the 4th of July holiday!!! I cannot believe him. He is disgusting. What was the resolution anyone came to from talking to the poilce? I hate to call and bother them with this. Were they understanding of the situation?

Hi. I have a similar story ... sent ikaput my daughter's ipod in April at the suggestion of a local electronics store, paid for a new harddrive and haven't seen it since. Lots of bogus e-mails from Brandon stating that it had been shipped back in May; then the post office was "backed up"; post office lost it; refound it & rechecked it in July; supposedly shipped it again. Never got a confirmation number (of course not!) and here we are at the end of August without the ipod. I've filed complaints with the BBB of Utah and the Utah State Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection, my credit card company, and I've called the Pleasant Grove police dept. several times (no response). I did ask in my complaint to the attorney general's office to shut down the site so no one else can be ripped off and maybe it's coincidence, but I notice the site is no longer up. I'm trying to get my money back for the "non-repair" and I'm still trying to get Brandon just to return my daughter's original ipod. Some of my e-mails have been less than kind to him but I've never been flat out rude or crude. Here's hoping he gets what's coming to him and we all get our ipods back!!

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah ?(ABC 4 News) iPod owners who shipped their iPods to a Utah company for repair claim they never got them back.

After dozens of complaints the Utah Better Business Bureau down loaded a warning against Pleasant Grove based ikaput.

“My iPod broke, it started freezing up all the time and not working,?said Reshohnah Salazar. She did not buy the extended warranty so she could buy a new iPod for about the cost of having her old one repaired.

But then a Google search brought her to an iPod repair company called ikaput. "The post office confirmed with me that it was delivered."

But after a few weeks of watching the mail Salazar called to find out what happed to her iPod and the hundred bucks she sent them. "They told me, we don't have your iPod.?br />
Unfortunately, Salazar is not alone. The Utah Better Business Bureau has received more than 80 complaints about ikaput. in the past year from iRate iPod owners in 32 states and Puerto Rico.

“There was a death in the family, the employees were stealing the iPods,?said Better Business Bureau of Utah director Jane Driggs. “They were very clever excuse and customers were giving them some slack, but unfortunately things never improved."

The Better Business Bureau traced ikaput to Brandon Jones, the author of a book about how to repair iPods.

But investigators have not been able to find Jones, who apparently picks up the iPods from this UPS store in Pleasant Grove. “He’s young, he's only 23 years old. Who knows what happened but he is losing a lot of customers and it may be difficult to recover,?Jones said.

Salazar doesn't think she will ever get her iPod back and figures she lost about 500 dollars due to her dealings with ikaput. "Where do you think your little iPod is right now?" asked ABC 4. "Probably on ebay somewhere, they probably fixed it and sold it to somebody else."
