Today I just got a new battery for my old iPod mini, it worked great the last time a used it (6+ months) when it would work (the battery died), and now I decided I would buy a new battery and let me friend keep it/use it while snowboarding.
There seem to be some problems with the click wheel, and I don't know what. Everything else on the click wheel works except for the middle button that you actually click stuff with. Everything else works fine. I can't go to my playlists, change the settings, or anything; it's basically an iPod shuffle now.
I bought a new battery from eBay for a dollar, and I don't think this is the problem because I don't see how the battery would effect the click wheel, so obviously it has to be the molex connector or something. I don't know if I accedentally damaged the ipod while putting it in (I don't know how I would, I put it in very gently and made sure I didn't hit the click wheel; it's also in a metal case/protective shell if I'm correct).
What do I need to do to fix this, I have until friday night, and then I leave saturday all day, so I have 2 days to get this fixed. I am looking for EXPERIENCED users, not a 12 year old who has their parents credit card and tells me to "go buy a new one", I don't have the extra $50 right now to do that. Should I take it out and clean it? If so, how? Is it broken? Can I fix it myself? How?
Looking for some help, thanks. =============
Alright, after tinkering around with it a little bit I figured out that the molex connector is ripped a little bit. I don't know where it is exactly, or what it looks like, but its the connector head and one side of it got ripped off (where it was soldered). If I soldered it myself would this fix the problem? =============
Why do some ppl think everybody is sitting around waiting at the ready to help at the moment's notice? If I have so much experience, why don't I go get a paying job for my skills than sit around.
There are tons of posts at the Discountinued iPods section for the Mini BTW. If no attendant available, use the SEARCH button my friends. =============

that's pretty harsh, don't you think bobb?
The original poster is right.
He did damage the molex - i'm shopping for a discount ribbon cable myself.
Hopefully it's a 2nd gen mini - as the molex cables seem to be significantly more expensive for the 1st gens - which, unfortunately is what she needs for her little pink mini. =============
