Hello and thank you for welcoming me.
I've had my 4g ipod color for one year now and it's been completely trouble free. I've taken emmaculate care of it, and it has me. This christmas however I decided to pass it down to my son. When we connected it to my desktop (the same one I've always used for syncing), it didn't mount to itunes, or My Computer. The desktop didn't recognize at all, not even "found new hardware".
It does charge...
I've run the internal diagnostic on it, and everything seems to pass with flying colors. The ipod is fully functional otherwise.
I also reset it, and did a force disc mount. Didn't work.
As a last ditch effort I bought a brand new sync cable just to negate that possibility.
I've heard of doing a complete restore and reinstall of the firmware, but I'm instructed to use itunes's menus to do that. Obviously if the computer doesn't recognize the ipod, I can't do that.
Oh and I have tried on several of my other computers. There isn't a hardware conflict.
I'm beginning to think the hardware itself if the culprit, but I figured I'd try you guys out before sending it for repairs. I'm hoping there's another trick, or that this is a fairly common dilemna with an in home fix. I've googled my heart out and tried everything however, so I'm prepared to hear the worst.
I guess no matter how well you take care of electronics, they still expire.
Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again =============
