i have been getting this error every time i plug in my ipod classic. the connected screen doesnt show up and on the computer it is called an unknown device. i have tried updating drivers, reinstalling itunes, the 5 Rs and almost everything. im getting pretty ####ed off because i cant use my ipod now since i already formatted it. On my laptop the ipod works jus fine. it connects and everything but all my songs are on my home computer. so I really have no idea what to do. PLs for the love of god if any1 has the answer post here.

try using the usb ports on the back of the PC if you're using the ones at the front.

has the iPod ever worked with the PC? how old is it - could it be using usb 1.1 instead of usb 2.0.

Since you've got it working with your laptop, I'm guessing it's related to the actual PC as opposed to the iPod.

What drive letter is the PC trying to assign to the iPod - have a look at this apple doc...
