Here's a neat equation to discover your approxamate metabolism...if you want to stay at your current weight, then eat about however many calories the equation spits out at you; if you want to lose weight (about 1lb a week) then eat 500 calories less. http://businessplanforthebody.com/plans_metabolism.asp

For me, if I eat about 2000 calories a day, I should lose a pound a week. Sounds good to me! :p

According to that, for me to lose 1 lbs a week, I can get away with intaking around 1920 calories a day, which is around what I've been intaking lately.

i always wonder how accurate these online calculators are...they're always fun and interesting, but I never try to take them too seriously. According to one, it said I have an "apple" shape, which I do *not* have, and said I was prone to all these random diseases because of my supposed fruit-like shape. :r

actually, "apple-shaped" people ARE more prone to certain diseases. i don't know what the measurements are to determine your shape, though.

Apple-sized people basically means a high WHR (waist to hip ratio).
These people are more prone to every imaginable disease/illness out there. I.e. Heart disease, cancer, diabetes. I think this is due to the fat deposited in the abdominal region, which cramps up the other organs and restricts blood flow among other things.
My professor pioneered the study on WHR! :) He found that women with low WHR are overwhelming found more attractive than women with WHR when controlling for breast size, facial beauty, different cultures - you name it, he controlled for it. Generally as women's WHR decreases, they are healthier, more fertile (because they are healthier) and live longer. It's not so surprising that around puberty, a woman's WHR plunges because her hips widen as a result of the increased levels of estrogen - which signal she is just about fertile! WHR basically was a way for our ancestors to assess the viability of a woman.
I'll stop rambling now. Read some studies by Dr. Dev Singh - the man is super creepy, but he rocks my socks (and owes me a dinner for being the #2 in his class ;)).

mine says around 2500 calories to maintain.. i usually average between 1600 and 1800 daily with 45-70 minutes of exercise 3 to 5 days a week and there is no way i have been losing a lb a week...i have been maintaining for the past 8 months or so within 5 lbs.....in fact i am pretty sure that if i ate 2500 calories a day i would gain

of course my metabolism is slower than molasses in january and once i hit a certain weight/size i do not go any smaller, the dr. told me i had a funky bone structure and that probably i have lost all the weight i am going to without starving myself. I'm very curvy, big chest, big booty...

I think different things work for different people and i think it definitely matters what those 2000 calories consist of. :)

Apparentlee I need 2573 a dey to maintain my weight. Har har like laru, I'm purtee dern sure I'd gain weight wit dat muchos. In fact I ate below dat dis summer and I gained weight - it'z all about late nite snackin'!
Aneehoo, my metabolism sux arse since I fucked it wit my phunkee eatin' habits and evereeone in my familee is either overweight (my sistah iz just about obese) - except fer dadd-o (who wuz overweight and had da cancer).
Aneehoo I wunder if I am even consumin' 1000 calories nowadayz . . . been stressin' sum major schitt thus makin' me rilly anxious and when I'm anxious I am nauseous and when i am nauseous I dern't eat. And yeah I am losin' weight, but dis is not da kewl way to do it. Bleh . . .
