baaaaad ear infection

Position: Home >> Life >> Health >> ÕýÎÄ ¡¡
It began the night before last. I lost use of my left ear. :(
I figured it would go away as it happened about six months ago... and went away. That was much less painful. It really started to hurt last night as liquid began to build up in my ear. Then, it clogged up and the left side of my face began to swell. I went to the doctor today because it kept getting worse...

He said it’s one of the worst he’s seen all year and gave me a prescription for pills and drops. My ear canal is completely closed.

My jaw is also swollen making it difficult to chew. It feels like someone is sticking needles in my face.

Hopefully, the medicine will help.
The pain is unimaginable! :(

:a

*whispers* get better fast!

Oh, and, remember, despite what experts say, chocolate helps every ailment.

Oh god. I had one of those before. I think I'd rather get run over by a bus. Those are the most painful things ever. I hope you feel better soon. ;k
=============
I had a bad one in 8th grade...not as bad as yours I think, but it felt like someone was jabbing a butcher knife into my ear. Man, hope you feel better soon!

I used to get ear infections a lot as a kid, and now I get them every once in a GREAT while. They are horrible; I know how you feel. I hope you start to feel better really soon! The meds always helped me a bunch, so I hope they do the same for you.

:)

I take it you will "regain" what seems like "temporary hearing loss"? Let us know. Get well soon.

i hope you feel better soon. i've had nonstop ear infections and a perforated eardrum since the beginning of this year. i finally had surgery on my ear.

and get a prescription for some pain meds, if you haven't already. let those antibiotics work, and the fluids drain, and you'll be feeling less pain.

i actually developed tmj in my left jaw because i was clenching my teeth from the pain, so try to relax. heating pads seem to help, too.

get some rest, feel better soon.

Thanks everyone.
I've been taking the medication for a full day now with little or no improvement. In fact, my jaw feels even worse. :(
I really hope I start to feel better soon.

It's very difficult to get any sleep with this tremendous pain.

Oh god, I feel for you. A few years ago, I kept getting ear infections, and it ruptured my ear drum twice!! So now I have a hole in one eardrum, and I chose not to have it closed up because I didn't want to get another infection and rupture again. It hurts sooooooo bad when you have one of those suckers. It should start to feel better in a day or two. Just take your pain medication and take it easy. Good luck!!

piano on fire -- did you leave the ear infection untreated for 6 months?? because if you did, it's not like you don't already know now but that is really really dangerous.
what medications did your doctor prescribe for you?? i'm hoping cipro and vicodin, because this sounds like it's a pretty strong infection so you'd need a strong antibiotic. and if he gave you anything weaker than vicodin for that kind of excruciating pain then he is truly a sadist.
i hope you feel better hon, get plenty of sleep because other than the meds, sleep is the best way to repair any damage that's done to the body. take care of yourself and i hope you get well soon!!

No, the last time I'm referring to was not an "actual" ear infection. The doctor couldn't tell what the problem was.
She said I might have scatched the inside of my ear causing me to lose my hearing.

I took Sofracort drops that time. I regained my hearing in two days or so.

This time, (a different doctor) prescribed Soracroft drops as well as Ciprofloxacin. He said I only needed Cipro as it would help open my ear canal allowing the drops to gain entrance.

He said if it didn't improve by Monday I should have it looked at again.

I should have demanded some sort of pain killer. When I asked about it, he said I didn't need them and that the pain would go away. He suggested I take Advil. :r

I'm about to suggest he give me some sort of pain killer before he suffers the consequences. :s

I hope you recover soon! I know how much that hurts.:(

GET WELL SOON
:O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O :O

I had earaches that hurt like a son of a bitch. I hope that I don't get them EVER AGAIN.

…update?br />
Well, the pain finally seems to be subsiding, especially near my jaw, which obviously is the area that is infected. I’ve been taking Tylenol like crazy. Now, I’m chewing gum to get the strength back into my jaw and most importantly, waiting for my ear canal to open so that I might hear out of this ear again.

I can honestly say that this is the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced.

You might think I’m crazy but what’s even worse than the physical pain is the inability to hear, for several reasons, which I don't think I need to explain.

:n

A few weeks ago I went to the Dr. fr a sinus infection, and he told me I had fluid in my ears and was just about to get an ear infection and he gave me meds.

I'm so sorry. I'm glad you feel better though.

Every time I have had an ear infection, I've peroxided it and it goes away. Peroxide is a good thing mmmmkay....

I feel A LOT better today.
There is no more pain and I can hear every so often.

*cracks open the champagne* :D
