A friend of mine says she has a form of anorexia where her body won't absorb food. She's been to a few doctors and they said it's called Type B Anorexia. I thought anorexia mean self-starvation only. What is the deal with this type of disorder? I've never heard of it before.
i haven't seen her in a long time and can only really keep in touch online, so i don't know how severe she looks. She claims to be only 95lbs at 5'7 at this point, and got to this weight in only 2 weeks from her body's problem. Bizarre... =============
Interesting. I've never heard of that before. =============

i don't know... that sounds rather bizarre... all bodies absorb food. she could be having a problem absorbing certain nutrients, or she might have hyper-thyroid. but if her doctor is calling it anorexia, and she's not doing the starving herself... then she should see another doctor.
hyper-thyroid, can you please provide more info you know on it? is it related to a high metabolism (something that is considered healthy)? it sounds like its something not healthy. =============
I have a hypo-active thyroid and one of the problems associated with it is a slowed down metabolism.
People with overactive thyroids have the opposite problem. Their metabolism is increased, which is why these people tend to lose weight without any other explanation. It is not healthy though. It goes beyond what a normal healthy metabolism is. A woman I worked with said before she was put on medication her heart raced, she couldn't sleep, and she had a large goiter grow in her neck because her body had too much thyroid hormone. =============
