throw away thin clothes

What is everyone's take on throwing away you clothes that you wore before you became heavy? I have a fair amount of clothes that are from various weights, and don't know if I should get rid of them or not. Maybe I'll fit in them again, but that could be awhile.

What do you think?

Personally i think you should hang on to them. I had a whole closet full of clothes i never thought i would fit into again and now they are too big for me! Some of the stuff was over 8 years old and as i lost weight it was fun to get into the stuff from various weights in my past. When you start to lose weight save your present clothes as well, they are fun to use to mark how far you have come. I still have a pair of 24's from when i was my heaviest (I am now an 8) So yes i think you should definitely hang on to them. Some of my old clothes actually gave me a little inspiration to keep going. Do whatever makes you feel most comfortable. :)

Thanks for the reply. I am not actively trying to lose weight, But I am thinking about getting some pounds off, due to the fact that most of my shirts are X-large and I can't fit in them anymore!!!! 2X is starting to fit too well. I think all I need would be about 20 lbs, which is nothing on this 6' 2" 295lb frame.

I would have hung onto a lot of my "thin" clothes-but I knew that by the time I'd be able to fit into them again, they'd be 1) Out of style and 2) they'd be "too young" for my tastes. A lot of my "thin" clothes would come from when I was 19-20 when I could still pull off dressing like a teenager. Now, I wouldn't even think of it. So when I finally lose the weight I want to, I'll be buying new "thin clothes". :)

But hey if you keep your thin clothes to wear again, and they'll still look good on you, then by all means keep 'em!

i think it depends on what they mean to you... I gave most of my thin clothes away because to me it was too much about holding onto the past, i'm not a size 12 and I may never be a size 12 again. Having all that clothes just made the feeling of temporariness in my current body (size 16-18) all that much stronger. I need to accept my size now so that I can accept myself.

This is just a personal thing though, I think smaller clothes could also be inspirational, but for me they weren't.
