so my b/f who is 34 got chickenpox and has been really sick. started out with what we thought was just a cold, but then the bumbs appeared in like 10 mins out of nowwhere. so i have been laying on his bed playing nursemaid 24/7. last night turned into a whole debate if we should goto the ER or not. his fever went up from 99 to 102 during the corse of the day. then it decided to stay at 102 for hours. after a cold shower and some drinking it went back and forth from 103 and 102. finally it started to go down. then he passed out and i went to sleep. 10 am this morning hes waking em up saying he cant breathe and we need to go. hes all out of breath. went to the ER they quarentined both of us which i never seen happen at a hospital. bottom line was chickenpox escelated to a viral infection on top of that. they sent him home with like $300 worth of meds. then he finally passed out and was sleeping soundly.

now heres where i start to growl. at like 5 the phone rings and his mom says his good for nothing wife decided to come over so she can pick the kid up from school (hes in school till 6) and take him out for halloween. great for her, the holiday only mother. well they decide i should leave until she gets the kid back, whenever that may be, and leaves. so basically i have been sitting at his bedside for days only to be tossed out for the bitch, while hes still sick as a dog. i am just furious. and hes prob laying there half dead as we speak. grrrrrrrr

That's kinda odd-someone where I work has the Chicken Pox right now, but not very badly (she was only out of work for a couple days).

word to the wise, if your an adult, run liek hell from anyone with chickenpox if you havent had them!!!!!

i away heard they were bad for sdults, but man, even if you take this other viral thing away, he is suffering.

but thanks everyone.
i needed to vent lol

yep. shingles, is the right word. and from what i understand about them its like a nervous condition type thing. and then you get like lumpy chickenpoxish things.
thank god we havent went there yet. and shingles are contagious so if he ends up with them, guess whos gonna get them too.
i am already sick so i dont knwo what else can happen lol

My mom had shingles.

Similar virus, but not quite the same as chicken pox. (I am not sure if one can lead to another, but I do know you can get shingles whether or not you've had chicken pox and that my mom just...got it. It didn't come out of something else.)

Shingles HURT. It is no fun. :(

i'm sorry your boyfriend is so sick... it's pretty shitty that this whole "wife" thing is going on...

on the subject of chicken pox, here in Canada, public health advises that if you haven't had it by the age of 25, then you should get the vaccine...

shingles (herpes zoster) and chicken pox (varicella) are both caused by the same virus (varicella zoster virus)...

shingles occurs when the latent VZ virus is reactivated years after the initial infection... when an outbreak occurs, the lesions usually appear along the cranial or spinal nerves...

i worked with a patient who had shingles and we were advised to wear gloves if the lesions were present and especially if they were "weeping" (leaking fluid, as they sometimes do if the scab falls off)... if you've not had chicken pox, you can catch them from a patient with an outbreak of shingles...

Mairie: from what i can gather from my med books... yes...
