Need a little help on some knowledge to Amps / Subs / Speakers.
Its something like we know PC we have CPU frequencies, ram frequencies gfx cards mem core n stuff. But i hope to know more abt the factors that affects the sound from our speakers amps n stuffs.
Went to simlim to get a nice amp for my living room. At a shop the guy ask us about what speakers we used n stuffs and he explained that certain Amps uses 6ohms / 4ohms / 8ohms ( I belive this is the impedence but wth is that ? ) thus the sound projected out to the speakers will not be that nice if the speakers are using different impedence n stuffs.
Like my dad he goes to the shop and looks at those "ang kong" HDMI / THX Select / Dobly digital DTS blablabla and den he'll ask for the wattage. It seems to him its like the higher the better. First time we nearly bought a 130watt x 8 channel Pioneer THX with auto callibration Amp. Today we again nearly bought the 250watt x 7 channel Pioneer Amp @ 1.6k . It seems to him that the larger the wattage the better it is. Though the sound really pwns the 130wattage one but is this true ? I mean we've got oldies going down to sls requesting for a gaming comp for the kid and the nice guy introduce an E6600 2.4gig Conroe for him and he goes " HUHz ? 2.4gig ? so slow ? i thought now 3gig + " and he just wanna get a 3.2gig egg frying Prescott coz they have no idea on the fsb blablabla.
So i don't want my dad to spend his money without knowing any shit. So anyone could spare some knowledge or some other forum ( Besides Sgheadphones ) or websites abt these info PLEASE Help :D =============

Tell him to hold off buying any avr if posssible. If not, just get the cheapest one available. Cause in a matter or a year or maybe 2, all avrs will be pretty much outdated with the new software that'll come about from hd dvd and blu ray movies. :) =============
hehehx i told him to wait till our 42" big big toshiba fatarse tv gets dead soon. Its already 7yrs old.
What we intend to get is a 42" plasma tv with a external connector instead of a built in one. Of course it must be a HDMI 1 haha. Den choose the avr den =============

y not a projector
as one person who converted me successfully to projectors:
"Plasma people measure their screen in inches. Projector people measure theirs in feet"
i agree with the peeps here buying a AVR and DVD player right now is not really advisable unless you NEED a certain feature or something cos with Blu Ray and HD-DVD coming out, its better to wait till the industry settles on a common standard or till when multi-format dvd players emerges
my 2 ceent =============
