Hi
I am out and about quite a lot
and need to monitor my website
can someone tell me if this service is any good...or can they reccomend another.....internetsupervision.com
thanks people =============
I use Google Analytics =============
Google Analytics is really good especially as it is free. You will have to add some code to each page and spend a bit of time learning about what certain things mean but it doesn't get much better for the price! :) =============

does google analytics let you know if your site is down by phone etc =============
There are loads of sites that will let you know if your site is down and contact you.
Most have a free trial period.
Just google for them. =============
What I`m looking for
monitors the site
checks changes on the site
warns of unauthorised changes on site
hacker protection /warns of brute force attack
sms /email notify etc
anyone know of a good service...? that provides this.... =============
I would say use Google.
does google analytics let you know if your site is down by phone
You cannot have much trust in the Hosting company if you need to know when your site is down, and if the Admin is in a secure folder then that would make it hard for someone to alter the site without the password and username.
Cheers

I do have trust in my hosting...actually quite good!
but as I`m mobile
this is why I require the service =============

Allways recommend anyone who has a hosted service uses a third party/independant monitoring solution.
http://mon.itor.us/ works well, although as with all free services you'll have to pay for SMS alerts but theirs are not badly priced.. :) =============
Hacker attempts are a server based thing.
Successful hacks can be picked up by outside monitoring.
Look here http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLL,GGLL:2008-01,GGLL:en&q=monitor+site+uptime =============
Pingdom one of the best!
http://www.pingdom.com/ (http://www.pingdom.com/)
We monitor all our infrastructure network, servers with them including our managed clients.
Text alerts by SMS etc always good when your on the move! =============
i have used both host-tracker.com and Hyperspin pro accounts . both are quite good , as long as you dont take the free accounts or promotional accounts. promo accounts are nothing buy scaled down stuff. =============

If you have email on your phone you might try http://www.montastic.com/ which is a free service.

Why not arrange for the key pages of the site to store on-line log files. Then via a simple admin page these log files can be reviewed any where. Alternatively for the most important stuff why not get the web pages to email you the information?
We do this for our sites and it yields some good info.

Thanks for sharing this Free directory listing. =============
"Google Analytics" rocks for this sort of thing. =============
"Google Analytics" rocks for this sort of thing.
Except that we've already covered that Analytics is *NOT* what the OP was looking for. They're wanting a service that is, effectively, an uptime monitor that'll let them know if the site's down, or altered.
Analytics won't do any of those things. =============
Use Google Analytics, it's the best service out there =============
Again (I'm impressed - two reiterations of the same point within four posts) Analytics is *NOT* what is required.
Analytics is a stats package/addon.
It's *NOT* a site-monitoring package.
Agreed, for *stats* Analytics is great - that's what it's designed for. As a site monitoring tool, it's pap - because that's *not* what it's meant to do. =============
I see, maybe I understood him wrong :) What are you using ozbon ? =============
I use Analytics for a lot of my site-stats - or alternatively I use WebLog Expert and run the analysis/reports myself.
But I don't use a monitoring setup at all (Which is why I haven't made any recommendations here for one) I've got a decent host who haven't let me down in four years, and so far haven't had to worry too much about a) site availability and b) the site being hacked (My passwords tend to be pretty unpleasant to hack, and in eight years of hosting I'm yet to have a site hacked at all. *grin*) =============
Probably seen it in your searches, but site uptime (siteuptime.com) is pretty good, alerts you via email, as part of the free service - I've used it in the past, but if you want a decent service, go for a paid subscription. =============

Oh, OK. Note taken - I must read the whole discussion!
Try internetsupervision(dot)com - they offer a host of site monitoring services. =============
Hi
I am out and about quite a lot
and need to monitor my website
What exactly do you mean by monitor, and why do you feel you need to monitor it?
cheers =============
It will be a fast moving site...(it`s heading that way), and also it`s ecommerce
and being a 1 man band...I just want feel assured that everything is okay
one of my competitors...and a big competitor at that that experienced problems through not monitoring...
and thousands of users were affected.........
I am veering slightly towards
internetsupervision(dot)com
because of the alerts etc, if pages are altered...brute force attack etc =============
google analytics and webmaster gives you all the informations you need , and if you want some more informations just have a look on seo tools :) =============
Google Analytics pushes you towards their AdWords scheme.
If you don't mind hosting your own analytics software, there is the open source analytics software Piwik. You can get an online demo and download from piwik[dot]org.
It's close to Google in terms of data descriptions, but going by their site, it looks like they are on course to provide a service that is even better than googles.
You can install it in around 5 minutes, and it's free! =============
Lets face the facts.
If you have sounded out your provider you should know the following:
You have your infrastructure monitored for system failure.
You have your system monitored for network issues.
You application is change controlled.
Monitoring can provide all sorts.........
I have used Mercury monitoring to control major systems.
I have used page control to monitor your website up down.
If you worried about availability you need to consider two options:
do you have a service level agreement ie 99% uptime?
do you trust your provider to provide a fast fix?
Everyone will have downtime it is the nature of the beast, make sure you can manage your supplier to deliver, if not make sure they do or else!
Regards

Ok, I'm still not clear what you consider your risks to be. How are you hosting your site? What does your website do, who was the competitor, what was their problem as far as you know?
cheers,
PS: Do you have contingency plans? Knowing that something is down while you're sat on a train or in a meeting is as good as not knowing at all!.. =============
I agree with the above thread
Let's understand your risk............
Comercially what impact does this have?
Where is your evidence of your competitor?
There is a solution and it will be simple!
Regards

Hello
We have just developed a new website monitoring service, its been live now for almost a week. It will notify you by email and SMS when your site goes down, and becomes live again. You can view the downtime in the account manager as well.
It can check your site every 5, 15 or 30 minutes depending on the package you choose, if your site is down then it will monitor it every minute. We also have a 1 month free trial so you can give it a try.
The address is www[dot]isitup[dot].co.uk (isitup.co.uk)
Cheers

I trust my hosting company and their guarantee of 99.9% uptime, and I think nowdays that figure is realistic, my sites arent mission critical or safety orientated so 99.9% is good enough for me =============
