Quick question, needing a server based in the UK, has anyone used UK2 (uk2.net)? got a quick word of advice on if they are any good?

I have a server with them, and wouldn't go anywhere else.

People may say my opinion is biased as I've recently done work for them, but this is not the case.

I recently recommended them to Damon (Stationery-Direct.co.uk) on the forums here, and he's absolutely over the moon with the level of service and reliability they provide.

You also get free SSL certificates and much more than just a server :D

Quick example of how good they are:
LINX (https://www.linx.net/) went down a few days ago. Almost all smaller ISPs in Telecity were offline, UK2 simply switched to their alternative bandwidth supplier :)

Hemm i've not heard of any major issues in a while we don't have any servers with them but i do chat to the MD quite a bit.

I know a few people with the lower end dedi's with them for the most part they run ok odd issue with slow support but for the money its not bad.

What sort of spec box are you looking for?

Not much in the way of specs, just need a box that maps to a UK IP and is pretty cheap with good support. Just need it for some smaller sites but want to be able to recompile php with some specific curl modules.

The only other provider that i know does low cost boxes is rapidswitch http://www.rapidswitch.com/dedicatedservers.aspx ?9+vat

We colo our boxes apart from the box we use for asterisk and our third level dns and mail in the states :)

Rapidswitch have a very large number of servers hence the price they can give.

I have my dedicated servers and some rack space with Rapidswitch in the Blue Square Dc at Maidenhead, far and away the best hosting company I have used, very happy. :)
