Hi,
I pay ? a month to ehosting for linux shared hosting, 25gb/5gb/2xmysql.
Support is fantstic and server super fast, actually renders pages faster than a dedicated windows VPS.
However they do not support shared SSL as do many others.
Can anyone recomend somewhere else that has similar packages with excellent support.
Not going near 1and1, fasthosts, webfusion type companies and so on.
Thanks =============
Why don't you use a dedicated SSL certificate instead of shared? They should support those. =============
Basically beause many hosts provide shared SSL for free.
So why pay every year for a cert
Pay someone to install it
Be responsible for maintaining it/renewing it
Pay extra for a dedicated IP
And so on. =============
CAcert is free. You have to install and renew it, though.
Frankly, Carl's advice is good. If your reasons for free are other than objection to paying, they must be good enough to get funding and a good service. Otherwise, you have to make some effort. =============

Are you running a business? You can get a Dedicated IP & an SSL Certificate for under ?0 per year. This is not expensive IMO for a business that wants to put gain trust from it's customers/potential customers.
The main difference is in appearance and trust. With shared, your visitor's address bar will reflect an address that is not 'originating' from the same site.
With dedicated, your visitors will always see the main site domain name in the address bar of their browser. Some shopping carts also do not support Shared SSL, one that comes to mind is Actinic. You also get a special badge/logo to show the site is secured. :)
Not sure about anyone else, but I'd much rather see the sites own domain in the address bar when at the checkout rather than some un-branded SharedSSL domain.
I think eHosting use Plesk, inside Plesk you can manage the SSL yourself there is no maintaining to do apart from renew the certificate every year which takes a few minutes. =============

1. Its worth the money
2. Install is free
3. Yes you have to pay an invoice its not hard maybe once a year
4. We provide IP address free of charge with SSL's as thats the only real reason for a dedicated IP and is accepted by Ripe.
So with us you pay ?5 pear year for a Rapid SSL Certificate and thats it no setup on your part done!
Unless you want a premium cert or a VeriSign cert. =============

And we know why it's free. :p
The RapidSSL will do the trick at little over ? per month.
Nice to hear you do not charge for a dedicated IP Dwebs, this one has always confused me as an IP address from RIPE or ARIN actually doesn't cost anything.
Shared SSL certs are pikey. =============

There is a cost attached more paperwork than anything else.
There is really very little justification for IP's apart from network gear, physical servers and SSL's all though there is a hack for IIS on windows where you can have multiple SSL's on one IP.
Our reseller pricing for SSL's is cheaper than the ?5 charged for end users :) =============
Pah.. meanies! aren't they decworld!
I wouldn't want to match their price on the bandwidth front... but I'd be quite happy throwing you a free SSL certificate, 20GB Bandwidth, 5GB Storage, 4 SQL, and all that other junk for ? per month.
PM me if you're interested, or you'd like more information about what we do and what we can offer. =============
We offer RapidSSL certificates for ?.60/y (Inclusive of tax) from our site. Usualy issued in under an hour after submitting your CSR (Certificate Signing Request).
Use it where you want. =============
I do not think many users see the difference when on an SSL page betweem
secure.mydomain.com/securepaymentarea/complete.php
and
secure.securesslsecure.com/user5555/securepaymentarea/complete.php
So why pay for something that makes no difference and that increases the things I have to worry about. =============

I guess I'm not one of those users, if I'm on a site and I have to enter personal data I always check that the domain I'm entering it on is the at least for the SLD (Second Level Domain) the same as the one I browsed too or expect it to be. Unless it's PayPal or or worldpay etc where I know I'm using a payment gateway.
I guess it depends on how professional you want to look and how secure you want to portray your service. (I'm not saying a shared SSL is any less secure than any other SSL BTW just the perception of trust is less.) =============

Entitled to your point of view however I also don't agree and expect a secure transaction to stay within the same domain I selected the product or service from. =============
You may not think it, but that doesn't mean you're right :)
Not only does it look to average joe as an unsecure transaction... they'll probably dislike the fact they're no longer buying from you. Or are they? How do they know? =============

We offer shared SSL free with our hosting packages. You can have a look at our shared hosting packages at http://www.eukhost.com/cpanel-web-hosting.php . =============
>Not only does it look to average joe as an unsecure transaction
You cant be serious.
Would people not look for -
httpS and the padlock.
Not what the domain was. =============

Your store URL http://www.yourbusiness.com
Your SSL URL https://www.yourbusiness.com
Shared SSL url https://superssl.myhost.hell.com whatever.....
Now which one looks professional?
Its all about customer trust, again for the cost its nothing really.
But i'm sure EUKHost can handle your requirements! =============
If you're so convinced on saving a few quid on a shared cert decworld, why are you asking? =============
What looks unprofessional is making auxesis arguments to make the issue seem worse than it is.
At what point does it become hell.com ! =============

LOL it was an example the shared ssl could be on any domain i dunno https://sharedssl.myhost.com whatever you want.
Remember some hosts give subdomains of the sharedssl URL some give subdirectories all depends on if they have wildcard ssl or not.
So its 100% not related to your site is it?
Ours used to be sharedssl.net but no one wanted shared ssl they wanted their own Cert's so it was pointless. =============
Not unprofessional, just opinions from people who know what they are talking about ;)
Personally if I see a shared SSL then I bin the page... =============
Brownie, my OP was where can I get ehosting.co.uk with SSL, not should I. =============
Fairy muff decworld, hope you get it sorted. :) =============

LOL why do you think they don't support shared SSL ??????
If the service is very good from what you say why would you want to move over a ?0 SSL ??? =============

Because Plesk for Linux doesn't support it. ;) =============

I'm surprised plesk even works last time i had a tinker it didn't want to do much, linux OS i'm a cpanel / direct admin fan.
You never know parallels might dump plesk for helm on linux in the future, fingers crossed! =============
You give honest, accurate and professional advice from pure experience, and you have it thrown back at ya ;)
Go for it mate... get an external, unrelated, unprofessional URL to host your site. Doesn't bother me! :) =============
