why main content missing ie ie5

Position: Home >> Life >> Computers >> Text ¡¡
My husband has been redesigning the Chiggs website, but we've hit a snag!

It's an XHTML strict / CSS site that is validated, but in IE6.0 and IE5.5 the centre column won't display, although the left (nav)column and the right column do. The centre column is listed first in the coding. All other browsers are fine.
The website address is http://www.new-baby-gift.net (http://www.new-baby-gift.net/) (on this domain while we sort out snags, then it will become the main Chiggs.co.uk site)

Any help would be much appreciated.:)

Don't worry too much about IE5.5, very few people are still using it. It's almost incapable of viewing modern web sites.

For IE6, is the column which goes AWOL fixed or floating width? Is it nested in a wider column, or does it have one of the others nested within it?

I've copied the code and CSS below. The missing column (starting with the div "colwrap") is both within wider columns and has others within it. The divs prior to "colwrap" also enclose the left and right columns which do appear although the right edge of the left column is missing.
The "container" for the site has a fixed width of 900px. Within this the column widths are floating. Hope this makes sense.

<div id="container">
<div id="header">
</div>

<div class="colmask threecol">
<div class="wrap">
<div class="innerwrap">
<div class="colwrap">
<div class="centrecol"><!-- Centre Column start -->
<div class="onecol">

<p>Inventors, retailers and wholesale suppliers of the Baby Feed Wheel, the Baby Medicine Wheel and the Get Well Wheel.</p>
<span class="bold">
< p>These innovative cards, gifts and practical parenting products help keep track of baby's feed and everyone's medicine times.</p>
</span>
</div>

/* Layout */
#container {
width:900px;
margin:0 auto;
position:relative;
border-left:5px outset #daf4f0;
border-right:5px inset #daf4f0;
text-align:left;
}

#layoutdims {
clear:both;
background:#eee;
border-top:4px solid #000;
margin:0;
padding:6px 15px !important;
text-align:right;
}

/* column container */
.colmask {
position:relative; /* This fixes the IE7 overflow hidden bug and stops the layout jumping out of place */
clear:both;
float:left;
width:100%; /* width of whole page */
overflow:hidden; /* This chops off any overhanging divs */
}
/* 3 column settings */
.threecol {
background:#daf4f0; /* Right column background colour */
}
.wrap {
float:left;
width:200%;
margin-left:-10em; /* Width of right column */
position:relative;
right:100%;
background:#fff; /* Centre column background colour */

}
.innerwrap {
float:left;
width:100%;
margin-left:-50%;
position:relative;
left:20em; /* Left column width + right column width */
background:#fff; /* Left column background colour */

}
.colwrap {
float:left;
width:50%;
position:relative;
right:10em; /* Width of left column */
padding-bottom:1em; /* Centre column bottom padding. Leave it out if it's zero */
}

.centrecol {
margin:0em 10.2em 0.5em; /* Centre column side padding:
Left padding = left column width + centre column left padding width
Right padding = right column width + centre column right padding width */
position:relative;
left:200%;
overflow:hidden;

chiggs, I'd have to copy and paste that and construct a web page to check it thoroughly. Sorry, i just don't have the time right now. I suspect the broken IE box model, but can't be sure without testing.

Try cutting the width of that div to 99% from 100% as a quick fix, but it may depend upon the relative sizes of the other divs, too.

Also, put in each parameter or you will confuse the browsers. You have three (out of four) in this line: margin:0em 10.2em 0.5em; /* Centre column side padding: which is in your final set of attributes, the centrecol class.

lol, yes, I can see that would be a bit time consuming :D I appreciate you taking the time to help me out!

Thanks for the info/ideas for a fix, dh is trying it out now.
