Some people say that it's unfair for entertainers in other fields (especially music artists) to just up and decide one day to become actors and get starring roles that actors who've worked all their lives for never get. I think there is some truth to that, however there are some pretty good musicians-turned-actors.
Ice Cube definitely comes to mind for me.................the thing is, he's definitely multi-talented as he not only stars in a lot of movies, but he also usually writes and I think he also produces them. I know he's written a couple, like the Friday series.
He wasn't bad as a rapper, but I think he really shines on the big screen, I can honestly say I enjoyed all of his movies and he just did a real good job with them, whether his roles called for him to be funny or serious (which is more like his real-life persona).
Tupac was another good musician-turned-actor, as a matter of fact 'Pac was part of the drama club at his high school, so it's really not even like he had no acting experience before making it big music-wise. I liked Juice and Gridlock'd.
I don't watch Broadway plays, but from what I understand Puffy did a hell of a job with A Raisin in the Sun. Maybe somebody here actually saw his performance, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Now of course there are some musicians who need to stick to music................namely Tyrese and Ludacris. I kinda don't think Luda shoulda got the role for Tez in 2 Fast 2 Furious, he only did average (but in his defense, he didn't have a very major role). But still....................obviously the only reason he was in the movie was to draw attention and hopefully get people to see the movie who wouldn't otherwise see it...............and Tyrese. Come on..............that scene where he and Paul Walker were in the Camaro and went airborne and landed on top of Veron's boat and he supposedly broke his arm..............that looked fake as hell....................and Baby Boy wasn't really that much better either.
Any thoughts on these musicians-turned-actors?????? =============
The rapper that was in Six Degrees of Separation. I never heard him sing, but he was great in that movie.
For the other way around, I think Sissy Spacek did her own singing in Coal Miner's Daughter. =============
Cher. Oi, I dunno. I don't like her music or her acting. But then again she's making more dough than I am now, with enough left over to get tons more botox and plastic surgery. =============

That would be Will Smith. I think he's a better actor than rapper.
I have yet to see a Mandy Moore movie, but I hear that she's a pretty good actress in all of her roles. =============
Don't many Asian singers move on to acting careers (i.e. Andy Lau, Takeshi Kaneshiro)? I'm not well-versed with their work, though, particularly the music. =============

This theory is dumb because the converse is true as well. Jennifer Lopez's singing voice is proof enough. =============
How's about Lyle Lovett and his Oscar worthy turn in The New Guy? =============

I didn't see that, but I saw him in some other movie that I already forgot the name of. But you reminded me that Tom Waits has been in quite a few movies. I like Waits--both as an actor and as a musician.

Who? :confused: =============
will. he was a fresh prince. kekekeke
stop kidding around! =============
eh...will smith is a case of a actor turning singer, not the other way around. =============

Start off as a singer, move on to acting, and inbetween do photo books. If your career is dying and you need a boost, do a raunchy (aka 'artistic') photo book. :wink:
I actually had a talk with one of my acting associates. He says its like a step up for a singer to go into acting. And for actors a step down to go into singing. Then again, its my opinion that most singers can become great actors with the right training...but great actors don't necessarily become great singers since their vocal cords have a major part to do with becoming a great singer.
J-Lo is NOT a great actress nor a great singer. She's a great ass-shaker w/ lip-syncing skills. :biggrin: =============
