Hi All.
I have a 01 hilux dual cab, there is an anoying knocking sound from behind the rear seat (or under it) i have taken absolutely everything out (that could knock) and have had a real good look underneath the truck, but find nothing loose or able to knock, it sounds like it could be something rather big banging around, it is driving me NUTS it came out of the blue but have no idea where to look anymore! Could anyone HELP!!! if you have any ideas what to check or where to look Please post so that i can have a look.
Thanks guys!
Cheers =============
What have you got in the tray? :D
Could be the jack or jack handle. But I assume you've removed these already. Not the back of the seat moving around is it? Check the catch. Failing that, I'd be looking at the exhausts proximity to the body/tray. =============
Yea i have taken the jack, handle and spare tools out, i have also pulled out the seat, i shook the exhaust, will give it another look tho, it almost sounds like something rolling up and hitting the cab or something banging up against it, i dont know, thanks for the help tho, keep them coming! Cheers guys! =============
Check cab bolts are tight and mounting rubbers are ok remove floor covering from near the mounting point and there will be a plastic cap remove it and you can get to the tops of the bolts the under side is obvious. 4 from inside the cab and another 2 each side infront of the radiator =============
could be a can of beans like what was rolling around in the boot of my mother inlaws falcon. it kept it off the road for 3 days until i had time to check it out lol. should of done us all a favour & told her it was terminal, the roads would be a much safer place lol =============
Let me know if you find it, I have a similar phantom noise from my 02 dual cab. Comes from the rear of the cab, I swear its internal but i've pulled everything out that can be pulled out and it's still there. I was getting a noise when the jack handle mounting points were a little loose and also when the jack wasn't tightened enough. Sounds like you've been investigating hard enough to check these though.
I didn't think about the bodymount bolts, will try and suss them out tomorrow.
There is a plastic trim panel on the front of the drivers side rear wheel well, I think it's meant to cover some fuel hoses. This has come loose and if i move it around it does make a noise. I've never sat inside the cab and had someone else wiggle it to see if this is the noise. I guess I should fix it and see if it goes away. So yeah, maybe check all your trim panels? =============
not a rock inside the chassis is it?? =============
Or a collapsed muffler. =============
Check the fuel filler flap still has its rubber stoppers on it.
Made drove me nuts for ages untill I realised the sound was coming from outside and not from behind the seat.:crazy: =============
Thanks guys, il check the body mounting points, maybe there is one loose or something, il also check in the chassis rails, could be a rock.
Thanks guys
Appreciate the help.
Keep them coming =============
Hey Guys,
I have finaly found out what the problem was, or i think i figured it out, It was a STUPID LITTLE STONE, found a way to get wedged out of view between the cab and the tray, kept between two bolts, it was the perfect size to get wedged and being slightly conical in shape as the body and tray twisted it moved and made a twang popping sound, then came loose and rolled around until all the movement wedged it tight again (explaining why it only did it some times and not every time i went over a bump or corner) then the body twisted and poped it loose again!!!
WOW did this have me going for weeks!!!
Thanks again to everyone that posted and i hope that by finding this out it will help someone in the same boat!!!
I will post a picture and show you how small it was!
Well i hope it was the problem, I only took it out about an hour ago but didnt hear it since!!!
Thanks again
Cheers
