G'day all,
The throw out bearing on the middy is buggered, so may aswell do the clutch at the same time,. Just wondering how invloved a clutch change for a middy is and any hot tips for doing it ? Would it be achievable without a hoist ? And can it be done by sliding the gearbox back on the cross member or is removal the bestchoice? A weekend (2 days) enough time to do it if all goes smoothly?
Any help appreciated!

you have the h55f box dont you?
To remove the box you unbolt the bell housing from the gearbox..and undo the gear levers and remove floor plate.....it is unlikey that you will suceed by sliding box back as the nose of the selector housing wont clear ( though u may with a body lift
The box itself is bum heavy and unbalanced it will want to tip too the side also
you can use an engine crane through the door with a sling
its an annoying process doing it underneath but not imposible...need a strong mate
when box is out you then undo clutch ect......
DIFFICULTY is in refitting.....as the bellhousing is retained on engine so is the thrust bearing so when refiting box you have to guide the input shaft through the thrust bearing without dislodging the retaining clips before you get the to the clutch.....its fiddly as you still need the box angled downwards to allow the selector shaft clearance ect......If you have a body lift the gearbox fitment is 30% easier IMO =============
Pulled the box outta my old BJ73 swb with a little trolley jack... bitch of a job! Put it back in with a chain block hanging off a 4x2 passing through the windows... much easier!! =============
