Hey guys, after reading the other thread re. mixing different types of coolant I realised that I needed to do something with my coolant!
I recently switched from the standard green crap that was in my hilux when I got it to the Toyota long life stuff. I was in a hurry and just dumped the radiator and gave the hoses a good hose out. I did know @ the time that I was doing the wrong thing but hey, we've all done a dodgi every once in a while!
After giving it some thought I was just going to do the same again, fill with distilled to dilute whatever is left of the mixed coolant in the block. Drop it again then repeat. With the hope of eventually ending up with clear distilled.
I read in this thread: http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=56548
That you can pull out some coolant drain plug in the block to empty the coolant. Can anyone point me in the direction of where this little pot of gold would be located on the 3rzfe?
I'm combing through my manual as we speak but am yet to find it.
Cheers

It will be in a factory service manual or one of the gregory's books. On my diesel 2.4 litre it is underneath the intake manifold behind the injector pump. The bolt is roughly 15mm I think from memory. Quite big. To do the job properly you'll want to replace all of the collant with fresh stuff. Nulon or Tectalloy is good. Ive got the heavy duty tectalloy in mine at the moment and no problems so far. Kepe in mind though even though it says long life its still best to change it every 40,000km or as your manual states. It gets pretty filthy!
While your at it might also be worth giving your hoses a good check for condition, and maybe even replace them, and possibly also your thermostat.
When I put in my new radiator I used new thermostat, hoses (leave the old ones as spares) and fresh coolant.
Finally also dont forget to empty your coolant resevoir!

I wouldn't worry about pulling the drain plug in the block. Just give everything a good hose out until the water runs clear. =============
Drop coolant remove thermosat flush it and also do it with the heater on might pay to remove one heater hose and flush that aswell at work i normalu drop rad cooland then flush the engine throught the heater which flushes the radiator and bypass/heater system all at once =============
When your doing your flush, are you just using the hose? Surely some of this freshwater is going to be left behind at the end of it all?
I found the drain plug in the block, going to sort it out on monday. I'm going to drop the coolant from the radiator and the block and also undo the heater hoses. Will fill it with distilled water, drop it all again and might even give it another flush depending on how it looks. It takes 8.8L so I should be able to work out how much distilled is left in the system by how much I add to get the concentrations right! =============

Yeah of course. But I'd much rather it was FW than saltwater! :D =============

Good Plan. Youll finish it and know your sorted for quite some time! =============
