Hi there 4wd Champs,
I have a 1989, 60 series Toyota Landcruiser with a set of All Terrain 31x10.5 tyres. The tyres are now due for replacement and I couldn’t help but fancy a set of 33?Mud terrain, particularly that I spotted this great package (set of four 33x10.5 for $645 including fitting and wheel balancing). My questions are:
Is there a room to go for the 33?given that suspension is pretty standard?
If the 33?tyres could be fit, would they cause a lot of stress on suspension? Your feedback is greatly appreciated. =============
Being a 10.50 they should be ok. =============
I have 285/75 R16 (roughly 33x11.5 I think....) on my 60, which has no lift. They are on a neg-22 offset rim, and only rub slightly on the front of the front inner guards when the suspension is at full flex. The rears don't rub at all.
So i'd say 33x10.5 will be fine, just make sure you have the right offset. =============
I have 33x10.5x15 BFG MT's on my 60. I had them on when I had no lift in the front and a 2" lift in the rear without problems. Like others said, get the right offset wheels and they will bolt on nicely. I take it you are looking at 2nd hand BFG tyres? =============
didnt the 60 series come out with there bouts 32" tyres from factory??
33's shouldnt be to much more =============

Your right smack,
the factory spilt rims were 16"s and running aprox 32"s like you said, just that they were only 2 1/2" bloody inches wide:D =============
The BFG 33" tyres are more like 31.5-32" when they are on the vehicle too, so prolly almost the equivalent height of the old 7.50x16 that some 60's had on.
Actually see a 60 driving around here that still has the 205R16 tyres on 16x5.5 wheels. Looks funny as. =============

To be honest I'm not sure if I have the right rims. They are the standard rims that came out with the GXL model in 1989. I'll have a look at it though. Execuse my ignorance, but will I be looking at "neg-22" written somewhere on it? =============

BFG are way above my budget, and I'm not really a big fan of second hand tyres. I found this store in Dandenong who sells a set of four Maxis for around $650 including fitting and balancing. =============
If you have the standard 15x7 wheels that came with the 60, then they will be the right offset. They probably won't have the offset written on them (they won't be -22 anyway as that is for 15x8 wheels, 15x7 will be something like -10).
I would check with the tyre shop about those tyres as I'm sure that Maxxis don't make a 33x10.5x15 tyre. BFG do and I'm sure are the only manufacturer that do. I think the Maxxis tyres would be 33x12.5 (which would mean you will need 15x8 wheels) and I'm not sure a tyre that wide fill fit stock suspension. =============

I'll double check, you got me a little bit concerned now. Well anyway, at least I know I could fit the 33x10.50, even a set of second hand BFG's is still an option. =============
Good cheap muddy i would recommend would be MUSTAR by nankang. I think they are roughly $160. I have a mate running them on his 60 series and i was so impressed with them i bought a set for myself. However, i went 285/75/16 instead of 15", but they are roughly same height and a tad narrower. Mate's 60 is stocko and he is not rubbing much or maybe just not complaining... Good rubber but! Stay away from second-hand tyres at all costs.
Cheers, Pan. =============

Are you sure they'll fit the standard rim? =============
Nope, you'll need new rims for 285's. 33" will fit the originals. I am just saying mudstars are a good MT option on the cheap side. Good luck with it all.
Cheers,Pan. =============
I think that you will need to update to 15x8 wheels for 12.50 wide tyres. =============
