After changing my pads to Hawk HP+ last October for autoxing, I found these spots on my SSR's polished lips.. but as you can see the painted surface on the spokes are fine. I admit I got a little bit lazy on cleaning my wheels during those winter months.. I'm guessing the brake dust was pretty corrosive.
Can anyone confirm what went wrong here and what my action plan to repair them should be? Is the damage past the clearcoat that the lip will need to be machined..?

Ive had that on wheels before after a winter. They just need refinishing. =============
i have the same dam marks on my polished lip =============
That would be corrosion starting under the clearcoat on the surface of the alloy. You can thank the salted winter roads for that. To correct it (stop the corrosion and refinish the wheel) it will need to go to a shop with a CNC lathe to remove the outer few thousandths of an inch and get below where the corrosion has reached. Then a fresh coat of clear and you are back to new.
