rota wheels Creaking

Position: Home >> CarCare >> Tire >> Text ˇˇ
I have a set of Rota Downshifts that make a metallic creaking noise when starting from first gear and shifting into second but the noise goes away after second gear and higher speeds. You can also hear it when coasting slowly out of gear. I swapped wheels to rule out ball joints and wheels bearings. I did inspect the rest of the suspension for problems and have not found anything that is worn or broken. All bushing are in good condition also.
I was wondering is anyone else experienced this type of noise and should I be worried that they might have cracks in them and might break?
The wheels do have 60K on them and still are not bent but have endured the New England Roads.

Update:
Tried some of the recommendations per users below, such as cleaning the mating surfaces to make sure that there was no grit that could cause it. Used a torque wrench to tighten lug nuts.
Today I moved the wheel around and the sound follows the wheel. It is a metal fatigue sound, like creaking spoke rims. I know in the past that people had issues with the sub zeros but have not heard of any problems with other designs.

Problem found and Solved see note below.
=============
are they hubcentric? If not, are using hub rings??
=============
tight lugs?
=============
Make sure the mating surfaces of the wheel and brake disc are clean as well before properly tightening the lug nuts.
=============
Yes the wheels are hub centric.

I will check the surfaces to make sure that they are clean again, but I did not see anything out of the ordinary.

I checked the lugnuts with the torque wrench last time and made sure that I was getting the 75 ft-ls of torque.
Thanks for your help gents.

Are you SURE that it is the wheels? Have you tried switching to a different set and seeing if the noise continues?
=============
I swapped wheels to rule out ball joints and wheels bearings.

reading comprehension ftw again.
=============
Have you taken out the center caps?
=============
I was going to suggest looking for cracks. It happened to a friend of mine w/ Subzeroes.

Problem Found & Solved

It was a valve stem nut that came loose and was tumbling around at slow speeds. At higher speeds it was pressed against the tire wall therefore not making any noises. The person that installed the tires did not tighten it properly on 2 wheels, but I made them check all 4 wheels so I would not have to come back with the same issue.
The only bad part about it was that I had wasted alot of time this past weekend looking at everything else for the problem that could have been prevented in the first place if they did their job properly.
=============
Thanks for the follow-up. Helps us all in the future!
=============
I hope this helps someone else in the future so that they don't have to go through what I just did. Some sounds are difficult to diagnose when they sound like typical things.
I was ready to buy wheel bearings & CV joints and start replacing them. Glad I found what I did, saves me alot of money and work.
