Hey everyone i have a 2004 wrx wagon with a completely stock drive train. Seems like sometimes when I and driving on the highway I will get a small shake in the steering wheel. Ive replaced my rotors thinking it was that but I still have the problem. I usually only feel it between say 70 and 85 mph.
I noticed when I was doing the brakes that I dont have any "hub centric rings." Could that be a factor in why my car shakes? I also just got the tires balanced, actually ive had them done twice. Its just really weird how sometimes my car is smooth as a whistle, and other times I get the shake.
Has anyone else had this problem? =============
Hub rings will make sure the wheels are mounted exactly on center, otherwise the person putting them on has to be careful about tightening each lug bolt a little at a time to achieve a lug centric position.
Are you getting a vibration anytime you go 70-85 or just sometimes? If you are getting it all the time at that speed you could have a slight bend in your wheel (most likely a front wheel due to the steering wheel shake). Take your vehicle to a shop that uses a Hunter Roadforce Balancer and tell them you would like to have the rim runout measured. Be sure they look at the runout graph and not just the first nubers that pop up. The graph is much more accurate.

My car has done the same and still contuniues after tire changes and numerous balancings. Not a constant thing. Makes no difference what the road surface is. Happens anywhere from 75 on up. After 4 years and 78,000 I chalked it up to a "Character Flaw" RP =============
Check Wheel bearings, Tie-rod ends, Ball joints. I had a similar issue years ago and it was one of those things...cant remember lol. =============
What kind of wheels/tires are you running? Hub rings are for aftermarket wheels.... =============
I had a simmilar issue with an old jeep of mine all it needed was a drive shaft balanced. =============
