For some reason, the main fuse (100A) didn't blow. The fusebox socket actualy disintegrated/carbonized UNDER the fuse causing it to cut the current to the entire car.
Here is what happened:
I was driving normally when the radio stopped working (no more current to the amp.). I tought... hum, maybe it's just the kenwood headunit acting up...
So I keep on driving, arrived at my home, back up in my spot in the undeground parking then as I was turning the key from "on" to "acc", I hear a big spark comming up then... nothing. No more light, radio, cabin light, nothing.
So I took a flashlight and checked all the fuses. They all looked fine, including the main 100A one. (the "tab" looked ok through the transparent cap).
Then I tried a few things, sanded the battery poles and connectors, got the battery checked at a garage, etc. Then I started to pull all of the fuses one by one. But when I tried to pull the master fuse I couldn't. It was stuck in the socket. It took me 10 mins with a pair of pliers and a flat head screwdriver to take it out, along with the 2 tabs and a lot of carbonized bits and peices of the fuse itself and the fusebox.
After seeing the results, I can't imagine how close it was to actualy start an engine fire!
I took the car to the dealer and even though they can replace the fusebox entirely, they cannot identify the cause of the failure!
I have been suspecting that my alternator might be deffective but I got it tested 5 times during the past year (including today at the dealer) and they can't find anything wrong with it.<v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" o=""><v></v><o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t"></o:lock></v:shapetype><v:shape id="_x0000_i1025" style="width: 21pt; height: 21pt;" alt="" type="#_x0000_t75"><v:imagedata src="file:///C:%5CTemp%5Cmsohtml1%5C01%5Cclip_image001.gif" o:href="http://static.mazdas247.com/smilies/shrug.gif"></v:imagedata></v:shape>(shrug)

Thanks, but I don't need it. The car is at the dealer right now. But it's still gonna cost me ?550 cnd to fix this! And there's no guarantee it won't happen again. =============
Maybe it loosened up and its been sparking/arching and/or welding itself to the fusebox connection. =============
^ def. a possibility, also if something foreign got in there to cause some kind of short it could happen.
resistance causes heat, so current may not have been effected enough for the fuse to have blown, while the heat melted everything together.
electricity is a funny little beast....
just be glad you dont have a ford that bursts into flames because of the cruise control.(flame2) =============
^ haha i hear that i work at a ford body shop and we just had to replace just about the whole side of an excursion becasue of that. lol funny part was it happend in the service dept. it was in for an ac leak lol. =============
