So I took my car to the dealer yesterday for a transmission noise i've been having for a while now. Basically theres no noise with the clutch depressed, and a whirring/rumbling sound with the clutch out which is opposite of a throw out bearing symptom.
I did a fluid flush recently at my college (i take automotive courses) and discovered lots of glitter in the oil. Also, the magnet in the case was wedged by the drain hole, half blocking it, and appeared to be eaten up.
So theres a hundred dollar charge for labor on diagnosing this noise problem without having to drop the trans and taking it apart. The tech's diagnosis was maybe bearings on the mainshaft.
Today I was informed that they will need to drop the trans to further diagnose the problem which is an additional $550. I have the mazda extended warranty which the service adviser told me MAY cover this IF they find something out of place.
The thing thats bugging me is that I know the magnet is out of place, I told the service adviser about it, but he won't tell the tech because he "wants him to diagnose the problem himself without outside sources." To me, a loose magnet could probably do some kind of damage. Shouldn't that in itself be deemed a defect and warrantied? Anyone have any ideas of what i should do? =============
Honestly I didn't even know there was a magnet in the trans case... never seen it myself when doing changes... =============
I got confused when he said pan. Are you talking about the engine oil there or transmission? =============
