Ok I just bought this 03 spicy MSP. When I drove it home the coolant temp stayed at 1/2 the whole way. I get it home and pop the hood to show my Girlfriend the motor she notices coolant sprayed on the intake box and battery. I did notice that the coolant was overfilled but didn't make much of it. Now every time I drive the car 3 days I pop the hood when I park and find the same thing, but the car never overheats, it get's to 1/2 then stops. Tonight I get home and the temp is a little less then 3/4 and same thing. What's going on here. I did buy a bumper to bumper warrenty from the dealer I bought The MSP from. I also think this car belonged to a member by the name of Mazdaspeed on here. I found this out today when I went to the registry to fill my name in.
=============
Looks like the water pump gave out. I just took it to the shop when I found the radiator empty after a puddle of coolant was under the car. Lucky for me I bought the bumper to bumper extended warranty.
=============
Welcome, sorry to hear about the issues with your ride. I was going to say check the thermostate but if your findind that the timing cover is leaking than I have to believe it's the water pump as well.
=============
Well The shop I took it too says it's the waterpump. Now I'm having an issue with who's going to pay for the work. I have a 3rd party 3 year bumper to bumper but they are saying it was a pre existing issue, I've only had the car less then a week. and the dealer I bought it from is saying it was an as is sale. I'm waiting on the manager of the dealer to call me back to what he has to say. This is some BS!!! Plus the sales guy that sold me the car say's he has no clue how I've drive the car since I left the lot. I was like FU I'm a 27 year old grown man with an F'n degree, I've driven the car to work and home for 5 days and that's it. I have no time or desire to street race the thing seeing as I'm an ER Nurse!
=============
I've seen water pumps when they leak it's not a long process, they can empty out the radiator in minutes. If it started a week later and the problem wasnt't there before then it must have been ok when you bought it and now it started leaking. That's how they make money by not paying out for claims. You just have to argue with them until you get them to pay for it. Learn from this lesson, next time you buy a used car ask a mechanic to look a it for you. If they charge you $75-100 it will be well worth it. Don't get the insurance. Oh and buy a tool set learn to do it yourself. I think the MSP has taught a lot of people to work on their own cars. Good luck.
=============
Thanks for the info. I got my mechanic to tell the warranty service it was a new issue so they will cover it. I just have to pay the deductible of $100. I know how to work on cars I'm currently building a custom 2wd suzuki samurai. I only bought the warranty for piece of mind. I figure $1200 for bumper to bumper for 3 years is well worth it. It even includes turbo and lsd. and all the gaskets. One or 2 more issues in the next 3 years and it pays for itself.
=============
Well then in that case talk to the mechanic and see if you can get the seals and belts replaced while he is in there doing the water pump. Since he is aleady going to have to pull off the belt it shouldn't be too much more trouble to replace everything else. I don't know how much they charge to do it on this car but I know on hondas it's around $400-500 so just pay for the belts and seals shouldn't be to much more. Another $150 in parts may save you the tear down again later. Unless it breaks down again with in the 3 yrs I guess then you'd only pay $100 again.

nothing, i was just kidding. the msp did give me some problems. but the majority of them were self inflicted, and probably wouldnt have happened if i didnt do a bunch of mods and shit to it, i to, learned how to work on cars from owning my msp. i dont own it anymore though (sad1)
=============
So the ride is still f@ck'd up. after the waterpump and thermostat were replaced I'm still getting overflow from the coolant overflow the car never overheats but the overflow canister bubbles over. They are thinking it's the head gasket. What a damn mess.
=============
is it actually eating the coolant or is it just pushing the excess out the top (like it should?)
=============
It's actually boiling out of the coolant resevoir. In fact when I stop and shut the car off and pop the hood you can actually see the reservior bubbling
=============
well yea, mine does that, but thats supposed to happen. How do you think the overflow fills up the radiator as it cools off if no air in the radiator is pushed out to be replaced with coolant from the overflow?
=============
I don't think it's supposed to happen the way that it is happening on my ride. Everytime I drive it, it boils out of the overflow. and all over the airbox and battery. Not Normal!!!
=============
well let me know if you find a fix or what was wrong. In all honesty i've been tracking down some cooling gremlins in my car and just flushed out the radiator this past weekend and i've been driving it around once a day to see if it keeps pushing out more coolant through the overflow.

After it cooled off last night there was an inch left in the overflow... ran it again today and more came out of the overflow, so i'm not quite sure whats going on. My guess is the overflow will be empty after it cools down.

is this normal here guys?
=============
I took my car to the Mazdaspeed dealer and this is what I found out so far. If the temp gauge isn't going past 1/2 you should be ok. Chech the fans to see if there kicking in at the right times. check water pump and t-stat. They were thinking at first my issue was electrical, sensor or relay. Turns out they figured it to be a blocked ac condensor and radiator, with debree. They are saying I'm not getting proper air flow through the radiator, causing it to get too hot and back flow into the reservior, then overflow it. I find out in a few hours how true this. and take it from there.
=============
keep us updated.
