Does anybody have experience with those yellow microfiber towels sold at Costco (made by Eurow O'Reilly)? They seem pretty decent and quite a bargain at under $10 for 16 towels. The nap is fairly thick unlike those transparent cheapies sold at Pep Boys, etc.
I'll probably get them but want to make sure they're safe for paint. Thanks. =============
i havent had any problems with them nor has my dad on his passat. =============
I like the blue ones sold at Walmart.... plus, the packaging has an STi on it, so it's gotta be good, right? ;) =============
You have a silver car, They shouldn't cause you any problems... =============
yes i've washed my car with those costco towels. they seem to have left swirl marks. my rex is san remo red and i noticed the marks after using those towels. i'm going to stop using those and try something recommended on autopia.org =============
There is a huge difference between a quality and a cheap microfiber towel.
I havent found anywhere that sells good ones other than online.
Theres all sorts of different types. Some are made really poorly and leave lots of lint. If you have one of these it will screw up all the rest if you wash then together...
There really a PITA imho. Nice to use, but a pita to clean. (aka have to be washed seperately from other rags + towels)
Id look into it a bit more if your really interested. You will find theres quite a bit learn about them.

I use them all the time. Never had a problem with them. They don't scratch or leave swirl marks. I guess it depends on how you use them. If you try to wipe a muddy car clean with them, of course it will screw up your paint. I use a detail spray and wipe clean. =============
i have blue (from Sam's Club) and yellow (from Costco) they work well.
just was them 2 or 3 times before you use them to get the lint/fuzz off before you use them. also wash them seperately (all MF towels only) =============
a quick sear on Meguiars online for Costco MF towels

I use them more for interior detailing and around-the-house stuff (work great for polishing that stainless steel fridge!) but they really don't seem to be the best for detailing on my black paint. =============
i love them for interior/dusting/windows/and lower panels on the car. i wouldn't use them to dry the whole car though. =============
I've been using the Cosco yellow for the last 6 months and have no problems whatsoever. Just make sure you tear off the white tabs to prevent scratches. Use it for drying the exterior. Usually use 2 towels per panel. And they don't leave any lint or residue. Just make sure you wash them with a light detergent and rinse them well after. =============
i use those costco towels religiously, they rock! i use them on my silver wrx and my black scion =============
You guys that are getting swirl marks should NOT be using a tight woven towel like a microfiber. You want a soft, loose pile towel.
The surface of a MF towel keeps any contaminants you may pickup in contact with the paint surface where a towel with longer looser threads has a better ability to pickup contaminants and keep them off the paint.
Thats the best way I can explain it off the top of my head.
When detailing a car you need (should have) a bunch of different types of towels to do a really good job.

I've always used the "Absorber" to dry my cars. Last year I started to use the microfiber cloths from Costco for final/touchup drying. Never had a problem. Great for the interior, windows, drying door jambs, under hood, trunk, and gas cap door. They work great and are inexpensive. =============
I use them and they are great for certain jobs. Definitely worth the purchase. =============
the "Absorber" is the best thing you could use to dry your car... i've used them for years and years and no problems whatsoever.. started off with chamois then went to the absorber and i'm never going back... =============
I just used those Costco yellow towels to wax my car. I washed it first and did the wax. No swirl marks. Great shine! =============
Thanks alot guys for the info. =============
