Hey I was just wondering what is the best way to dry off your car after going through a car wash without having to worry about scratching it or leaving apparent "circle lines" on the car?
It seems alot of people use chamois (sp?), but i've heard good / bad things about it regarding how it leaves "circle lines" on your car, but if it is a good method, how do you apply it to when drying your car?
Also I heard about the california wiper blade?? how does that work?
Thanks =============
Some people use a leaf blower, but personally that left dirty streaks all over my car.

The circles are mots likely left by using a dirty chamois and wiping the car in a circular motion. There are tons of detailing comapnies and each use their different methods. The new Mr Clean Autodry actually works ok as well. I do however wash and dry the car in the same manner. I wash from top to bottom and I start at the front and wash to the rear in straight lines, not circles. Same steps for waxing. I have no problems with circles. =============
Wait... you don't wax in circles? Aren't you supposed to? =============

Yep, that thing works great. I usually go over the whole thing with the Absorber, then go over it again with microfiber cloth to get out any streaks or waterspots. Works great for me, and you only have to buy it once, as it will last as long as you keep it moist. =============
The only things I buy from NAPA is wax/car cleaners and a water sprite synthetic drying cloth. Usually comes in a red can that is also used as the storage container. Its so absorbant that you can just lay it down on the car without dragging it, soaks-up water like someone the day after their 21st birthday. I've had the same one for over three years now, still looks and feels like new. Easy to clean, just rinse until the water turns clear again. Bought mine for about 25$, definately a good buy.

The best drying technique I've ever used is using water to dry water.. er something like that haha. Basically, after your done rinsing off the suds, park your car on a hill, if you can find one, and take the nozzle off of your hose. Turn the water pressure down a little so you just get a nice smooth stream coming out the end. Start at the top and just let the water run down the car. Since water is adhesive, it sticks to itself, so the water just sheets off. I'd say it takes off like 80-90% of the water just by doing that. It works a litter better on my moms benz than my subie cause of all the bumps and spoiler and what not. But the basic technique is still there. The best way to avoid swirl marks and scratches is to wipe as little as possible. After I run the water off in sheets, I just go through with a microfiber towel and wipe off the remaining bits of water. voila. And yes, definitely use microfiber, a waffle weave one is the best.
CF: Park car on hill, run hose on low pressure without the nozzle, let it run off your car so the water sheets off. Then microfiber it to clean up the rest. =============
I've seen different reasons listed in the past for waxing in circles and front to back. I just took the front ot back concept and ran with it since you do have the wind to go from front to back on your car. Using the wrong kinds of wax such as a cleaner wax in circles will leave the swirls in the paint. Best bet is to use as fine of a waxing compound as possible to get the imperfections out. =============
i always like the chamois but also take it on the highway after is what i usually do =============
Car wash--spot-free rinse.
Home--Mr Clean rinse. :cool:
Both use de-ionized water and eliminate the tedious need to wipe dry. :) =============
