Well at those car washes where you can wash your car your self are they bad for your paint on your car. I was wondering this because I had stuff on my hands and washed it off with the carwash spayer and it stinged the **** out my hand..and cracked my skin open. So I was wondering if these have any effect on the paint. =============
I really dont feel comfortable using them..I think they like recycle the water, so it gets really dirty and can scratch your car. =============

wow i hope thats not true lol.... its a bitch to take out my own stuff in the winter to wash it. =============
I use them sometimes, but i never use the brush because thats one of the things that will scratch your car, I just use the pressure washer that sprays soapy water, and than hose it off...never had any issues with them as long as nothing comes in physical contact with the car besides water/soap =============
I'd avoid using the pressure washer if you can.
as far as that brush... well, let's just say I saw a lady scrubbing the muddy under carrage of her SUV once with one. =============
yea the brush is def bad news..I dont think just the water and soap will do much damage. =============
Ive never used the brush... I was just worried about the force of the water hurting the cars paint. =============

Well that's easy, don't get so close :p If there is something on your car that you would need to put that pressure nozzle closer than about a foot from your car, you need to be hand washing it off.
I just got back from one of those places, I take my own bucket and mitt and just use the pressure nozzle for rinsing and running a little hot water into my bucket. It is pretty safe that way. =============
I've blown paint right off my car before with those damn pressure washers. Just down get up close and personal with grime that doesnt want to come off. =============
I use the one in my town that doesn't recycle the water. I just use the pressure washer to get the salt off. =============
I use the pressure washer to clean off the brush before scrubbing down the car. I only take my beater to those self serve car washes. =============
the pressure wash stung your hand because I'm pretty sure you sprayed close-range. Just don't go too close to the car and it shouldn't hurt your paint. When you spray your car, just go with your instincts.. if you think its spraying too hard, step back a little bit.
and I think the brushes are more for scrubbing wheels/tires/truck beds, not for the paint lol. =============

Most, of not all car washes recycle the water. In fact all water is recycled in one way or another (the water cycle), so I don't think that really means much in terms of damaging your paint. It's more important to use the right soap and applicator. =============

bwahahahaha. Not very smart sticking your hand right in front of a pressure washer! Of course it'll cut your skin right open! Notice how just a few feet away its a fine mist??
It's perfectly fine to wash your car with a pressure washer, at about a foot or two away from the nozzle. I use it under my hood all the time and Iuse those bays exactly how Sharkmonkey uses them.
Bet you won't make that mistake again. lol =============
thanks for all the comments eveyr one awnserd my question. diy carwash is fine just dont spray to close and bring your own suds and dont use the brush. thanks every 1 =============

I bring my own bucket and mitt and soap, I get some weird looks. But use the sprayer for rinsing and all that, don't even look at the brush, it'll probably scratch the paint  If only they had an industrial strength blower there to supplement towel drying... =============
I've taken my car to those kind of car washes, but i DO NOT use the brush... My car is fine.. I'd rather use pressure wash car washes than the car washes where you drive through and a machine washes it for you! =============
