removing paint over spray

i bought a used OEM rear lip last night and after getting the lip home i began to clean it off. i notice on the center diffuser part, there's a 4"X4" spot of silver paint (the lip is PSM, but the diffuser part is black). i was going to clay bar the lip to remove all the Small imperfections but thought i would double check on the forums first to see if there is a good way to remove this. you can feel the paint so i know there is no clear coat over the silver. so any words of wisdom would be great. and also if this is the wrong place feel free to move mods. hopefully i did a good enough job explaining to get some help. i can always post pics if that would help. thanks NASIOC.COM!!! :D

whenever we get any overspray here at the shop we just wipe it off with some paint thinner. use a small amount on a rag and just wipe it off, afterwards rinse down the part you cleaned with soap and water to get the residue of the thinner off. and then you're good to go

guess i should try that. i am not sure how long the paint has been on there. do you think that would matter?

no, it will just be a little harder to get off if its old, but the thinner will get it off. just work at it a little and as it softens up it will come off easier

Reducer also works, for fixing grafiti on cars.

claybar will take it off just fine.
