Looking to find the best kit for the price. SO far I have narrowed it down to:

http://www.pinnaclewax.com/portercablekit.html

^Comes with a nice assortment and some extra goodies. No products.

http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/a/port/7424_car_buffer.htm?E+coastest

^cheapest and includes the counterweight. Would have to purchase other products to use in conjunction.

http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/car+care/car+care+kits/machine+polish+%26+wax+kit.do

^Appears to be a PC, or similar. Includes some product and a few pads.

Thoughts? Recommendations on products?

I found my PC at Lowes on sale for 50 bucks then bought a set of LC pads that came with the velcro attatchment and was done for under 100 bucks. Try to find one at home improvement store.

I have tried this approach and have yet to score. There are a few Lowes & HD's local to me and I have yet to find one. Still hopeful, but not overly so. Thus my post.
=============
i bought that first kit last year.. def a fun little tool !!
=============
look for a tool supplier, not a detailing supplier if you want a good price.

I got mine from
www.coastaltool.com
years ago.

Its $99 now.
=============
this is where i got mine

AND I usually buy all my detailing stuff from autogeek

I would defanitly reccommend detailers domain..I have bought stuff from them before, The shipping is lightning fast, great prices and they are on here to help you out with any questions you have about all the products they sell and more
Just my honest opinion

Same here. AutoGeek FTW. Super fast shipping and great prices. I'd also look into the Flex.

Thanks JRyan, appreciate it.

Oh yes more Flex on the way should be a couple of weeks.

I'm not sure everyone knows about the discount or the way we do business but hopefully it will click soon. :D

I got the one from Griots Garage for xmas and it looks great. I havent had a chance to use it yet though. I do know though that their stuff is awesome and their polisher is made for them by PC.

Hey,detailersdomain.com how about a nice group buy for the Porter Cable 7424:D:banana:

sure thing what is most important to you guys.

how many pads?
backing plate
foam pad cleaning brush
some mf towels
menznera starter kit.

what else
=============
group buy for a pc please!
=============
ok so just let me know what you would be interested in and I can get one up.

2 pads/backing plate/pc

did you want a polish as well or just a basic kit?
=============
IMO just the PC with the Flexible Backing Plate and 6 inch counterweight.Let people choose there own pads and polish.
=============
This site i listed had mine at my door in 2 days, regular shipping. It also came with a few pads as a "bonus" at the time. Dont know if it does anymore tho.

I hope the group buy blows away the $99 price or its not worth the hastle / wait imho. Just order it and be done with it.

p.s. I cant wait to see the aftermath of the damage people do to their cars with their new PC's :D

I think the menzerna starter kit with a ccs orange/ white pad would work well 10 mf towels and either a sealant(fmj) or a solid carnuba(souveran/ p21s) would be a great starter kit. Then let them go from there. I have both a pc and a flex and I use the flex much more. I want to put some smaller spot pads on the pc for tight areas though.

Its not a rotary.With a PC its very,very hard to damage the paint.
=============
I'd much rather see a group buy on the Flex. ;)

You are one of the lucky ones. I checked every lowes in town. Gave up and bought one from coastal for $100. I check back all the time though hoping to score one of the lowes deals. Know a few guys that got lucky and got the same deal you did.

Lowes discontinued carrying the PC so they blew them out at a $40 loss.

Prices were from $49.50 to $68 at the time.

Was this a while ago or recently? I have been looking for ~ 3-4 months with no luck (since my old rotary died) and if waiting is stupid, well, then its stupid. If this was a once in a lifetime deal that happened a year ago...:(

I got your PM and will send you one momentarily.
=============
which rotary were you using?

this was over 1 1/2 years ago.

An EXTREMELY old PC. Like 15+ old.:lol:

I worked at a detail shop for 3 years while in HS, and they let me buy that one when I left.
I liked it due to the fact that with a 10" pad I could blow through a car fast. No, I never burned paint (well, after I learned I didn't:lol:). But the larger pads are a bastard on detail work so you spent even more time cleaning trim/waxing the odd spots, etc. I couldn't get rid of it since it worked...but now that its dead I want something a bit smaller and something that doesn't weigh 13lbs.
=============
Thinking of this:

1----Porter Cable
3 ---CCS Pads 6.5 (orange/white/black)
1---- 6 inch Counterweight
1 ---6 inch backing plate
1 ---Foam pad cleaning brush
3 ---MF buffing towels 16x24

Retail: $219.40

GB price: $179.95

Let me know if something like this would work for everyone. If not I can tweek it to what you want more pads etc.

how about getting a makita, from rotary to pc that's going to be a change.

Honestly...price and shifting of my needs.

I got my old one for a song ($20?), a new quality rotary (IMO) is going to be $200+ easy (which would exclude a nice set of pads). The PC plus all the tools will be under that mark. Thus my reason for changing.
Plus, I have really no need for the power of a rotary anymore. I used to detail on the side and had to help friends with their old POS cars...not so much anymore. It pretty much the wife's van & my car.

With the right product the orbital PC will probably treat me as well (within 5-10%) of my old one. Plus, it will be a great deal lighter. Thoughts?

I been detailing for 10+ years. Trust me, I meant EXACTLY what I said.

So basicly you want $180 for a $99 PC, 3 towels, 3 pads, and a brush?

:confused:

backing plate as well, wouldn't you need these anyway. Pick up a PC even at $99 and you would still need $50-$75 in pads, backing plate, counterweight etc...
=============
Sorry, I didnt see there was a different package from coastal.

For $115 you get -

" 6" Polisher Kit
We are including the 6" hook & loop contour backing pad and 6" counterweight for use in 6" polishing applications. "

I feel you could offer a little more savings if you are trying to "Hook us up". If your just trying to make a dollar, then by all means do.
=============
I don't know for a GB its really not that good.http://www.autogeek.net/po.html has the PC sets for about the same.They have a kit with

Porter Cable 7424
2 Low Profile 5.5 Inch Orange Pads
2 Low Profile 5.5 Inch White Pads
1 DA 5 inch Backing Plate
Counterweight
For $169

IMO
Drop the MF towels and the cleaning brush,and Sell it for $159shipped.Thats a group buy
=============
Ok so how about this

1----Porter Cable
3 ---CCS Pads 6.5 (orange/white/black)
1---- 6 inch Counterweight
1 ---6 inch backing plate

we ditch the brush and the mf towels....

let me figure out pricing.
=============
I suggest whatever you end up packaging, if its for noobs, don't give them a cutting pad. If you do end up with a cutting pad in the package, let people know what kind of khaos they can cause with it if they are not careful.

I would hate to see someone spending $150 to have a pro repair all the swirl marks they created with their new $1xx package deal.

Also fwiw. If you live in New England, and order from coastal in the morning you will get your package the next day most of the time with regular UPS ground ($8.50). Mine came the next day.
There shipping impressed me as much as their price. I assumed with that cheap price I would be waiting weeks... I honestly couldnt believe it when it showed up the next day.

I hate to sound like a coastal whore, but I have yet to find a better place to order from.
=============
I'm based on the Northeast as well but I know that costal tools probably can't give you polishing tips or would even sponsor any auto forum so I guess you would get what you pay for.

I'm working on something and hopefully you all might like it.
=============
1----Porter Cable
2----5.5. inch CCS pads (white /black)
1---- 6 inch Counterweight
1 ---inch backing plate
Retail: $173.83

GB Price: $149.95 free shipping

how about that?
=============
is the Counterweight and backing plate needed? what do they do?
=============
Yes, the counterweight keeps the unit in balance while in operation. There are different weight's available for the different sized (and weight) pads. If you have the incorrect counterweight the machine will shake you like a polaroid picture.

The backing plate is what you attach the pad to.
=============
p.s. I cant wait to see the aftermath of the damage people do to their cars with their new PC's :D

if a newbie 16 year old can do it, i am pretty sure i can do it ;)

Yes I know. They actually still had them for sale on their website about two months ago, but for some reason they were selling them online for regular price.

And actually they weren't the PC 7424 it was the 7336. Which is the same machine but sold as a sander, not a polisher. It had a sanding plate rather than a buffing pad. But that buffing pad with the 7424 is crap anyway lol.

I'm in if this stands to be true for the GB....been considering a PC for quite a while now, this GB looks good to me. :D
