if your dent isn't creased, there is a cheap method of removing some dents. Materials you need are a hair dryer, extension plug, dry ice, and a pair of thick gloves. First: if you can take your car into a garage, then do so, or if you can't you can do this outside as well. So get the hair dryer and put it on HIGH HEAT and heat the dent and a small circumference area around the dent. Should take about 3-10 minutes...depending on how cold it is. After the dent is sufficiently heated, get your gloves on and get the piece of DRY ICE and hold and press it into the center of your dent. Keep applying pressure and rub the dry ice around and in the dent and eventually you should hear a pop sound or see the dent POP out...The theory behind this method is to heat the metal which will make it expand and then suddenly cool it down with extreme cold (dry ice) and the metal will contract itself, there by literally pulling the dent out....
I've done it to my 04sti with small dings and dents... But remember that this will not work with CREASED dents..
Hope this helps
and you can get dry ice at your local hardware store or supermarket usually.
Total cost of this should be around 5-10bucks which includes the price of dry ice, gloves, and electricity for the hair dryer.
Mike
If you don't believe it, TRY it! It won't hurt the dent or your car and it costs less than most peoples lunches.

how big is the dent? will this work on tiny dent like 1/4"? =============

The biggest dent I've seen removed with this method is about the size of a plump grape fruit. And it will definitely work a 1/4" sized dent...penny or dime sized and smaller.
But remember this is for DENTS WITH OUT A CREASE....Then you have to go to a pro! =============
I've also seen this done with a can of compressed air. Same idea and it's worked for me in the past. =============
Damn, i gotta try that! I freakin HATE it when im washing my car and find another goddamn mystery dent somewhere on my car! =============

Like a can bought to blow off your computer keyboard and what not?
If so I may try this tomorrow! lol =============

yeap, thats the stuff, just hold the bottle upside down so the liquid will squirt out onto the surface a freeze it. =============

yep, exactly. =============
just a fyi, metal will only expand and contract so many times, so god forbid you get a dent in the same spot more than a few times. lol. =============

Keep us posted. =============
Boy I have just the "dealer serviced me good" dent to repair!!! =============
I've tried the compressed air, and it didn't even come close to working....I don't think it' works. =============
I'm a little unclear what you mean about creased dent, but i'll give it a shot, I have nothing to lose and 7 dents to fix. =============
i think ill give it a try hope it works =============

then try my dry ice method. and remeber that you still have to heat the metal before putting on the compressed air or the dry ice!!! =============
By the way....on my way home from Center City Philly last night....I got a little dent on my passenger side rear corner panel and GUESS WHAT I DID THIS MORNING.....no more dent LOL!!!
I love dry ice =============

Works great... until it doesnt work, or you bubble your paint with the hairdrier, or you damage your paint...
Or just spend $50 and have a dent pro do it with little to no risk involved. =============
^^^so you're saying that 5 minutes of my 110volt hair dryer can put out more heat and abuse than a full 8 hour day in 115 degree summer? HMMMMMM... that really doesn't make sense to me...And why do you think that our STI"s or just plain Subbies have some kind of cheap Crayola paint job???? =============
And Like I said this method was mentioned to me by Kevin at Classic Auto Body in Philadelphia along with former pro Porsche racer and now exotic car shop owner Mike Tillson...And I think these guys know a little about this stuff...maybe?? LOL
Well Mike Tilson is a freaking pedal mashing old man so maybe he just lost it and wants me to have a "bubbled" paint job on my STI that he wants to buy....after I beat the SHizzzzit out of his Carrera 4 ..hehe
But, seriously, I think he let me win cause that Porsche is a MONSTER =============
And I'm sorry that I didn't use the broken search function before I put up a post...Maybe before we say anything on here we should all just check the search and make sure that nothing gets repeated and that everything is original on here....:devil::devil::devil:
Whatever dude way to be that guy!!! Can I be your friend?

YUP you can also do this method instead of using dry-ice but, remeber...you still have to pre-heat the dent for the cold to contract the dent out of the metal =============

Subies do have really really bad paint. Probably one of the worst I have ever seen on a car. Except those Neons where the paint just peels off. =============

yes u need to hold the can upside down and squirt it =============

it's the rapid temperature change. =============
I have a dent, they tell me it will cost $500+ to fix it... needless to say, it ain't happnen. So I may try this out. =============
has anyone tryed this on the STI aluminum hood? I have two small dings I might try and remove =============
Yes it will work...only if the dent isn't creased. Meaning if there is a sharp bend in the dent. =============
I've tried the compressed air, and it didn't even come close to working....I don't think it' works.
I tryed the compressed air as well with no luck. I know i did it right too. Im going to try the dry ice next. =============

Wait wait wait.....you huffed FREON GAS??????????????
UMMMMM.....where do you drive? cause I don't want to be around there LOL =============
:lol: I see I havent lost my touch.
I like how you reply to me 4 times in a row with no reply in between.
Subaru's have fantastic paint! :rolleyes:
I would argue with you, but you can only lead a horse to water... =============
Tried this last night an nothing happened. We used dry ice and a hair dryer. =============
No Wheeeeeeey!!!!! =============
Wait wait wait.....you huffed FREON GAS??????????????
UMMMMM.....where do you drive? cause I don't want to be around there LOL
It's not freon, but it's a similar hydrocarbon... I think it's H134A or something. Freon is too :alien: to be used in commercial air dusters. Freon gets colder. =============
used a air duster and 650 degree heat gun on high . tried multiple times and nothing happened . do a search it doesn't work . =============
I tried this the other day and it worked perfectly. I had a dent about apple size on my passenger side fender. Instead of dry ice, I used canned air. I heated up the dent, flipped the can upside down, and bang, the dent popped out. I think that it'll only work on larger dents for it to get enough momentum to pop it out. =============
doesnt work
and youre just flexing it if it does come out
take it to a dent guy =============

Wow dude... I think the hairdryer is safe... however a SIXHUNDRED + degree heat guy my not be... that, my friend may very well "bubble" the paint :eek::eek: =============

Rock chips due to thin paint doesn't mean heat will 'bubble' the paint.

ummmmm ur wrong. The thicker the paint the more likely to get a chip!!!!! =============

The gas used to pressurize cheeze wiz or "whipped cream" is nitrous oxide (laughing gas).
Yes, you can eat, get high, and run 10 shots all off of one little can - freakin amazing. =============
hey does it take out door dings ? =============
what is defined as a crease? =============
a surface that goes from smoooth to rough , meaning every dent has a crease . which equals out to this method doesn't work ..... =============
^^ That logic is just plain stupid. That explanation of a crease sucks as well.
A crease is a sharp transition between planes, or a sharp bend.
This method is clearly intended for small dents that have a gradual, smooth transition. Finger dents, door dings, etc.
Thanks for a useful tip...I will be happy to try it and report back with my results. =============
