when you have a choice, which one of the two would you choose when parking your car for the entire day.
=============
tree sap... sun kills the interior and exterior.
=============
Direct sun. Tint your windows and get a sun shade. That'll protect the interior. Unless you wash your car twice a week that sap won't come off without a claybar and or polish.

I recently got booted out of the garage to make room for other crap. My car sits in the same spot from Monday to Friday. I have the choice of under a tree or out in the open and I choose the latter based on experience. I also have a car cover but as we all know they can be damaging as well if your car isn't perfectly clean.
=============
tree sap baking and left on the car for month is a pain, as a detailer I had some cars with sap that I had to compound/sand then removed took me close to an hour!

I've spent a couple hours on two occasions trying to get the sap off of my boss's wife's old classic car. This sap was baked in for several months and so far I've only managed to get about 80% of it off.
=============
Direct sunlight, I pretty much have to do that in my own driveway because the birds are bitches and crap all over the place. :furious: :mad: Last week I washed my car in the morning, went and chilled inside for a few hours before going to work and I came out and it was covered in crap. I had to go back to the carwash and spray off the crap because the parking lot where I work is not covered and in direct sunlight.

I park in the street at times now..........until I get my pellet gun back from my nephew. :devil:
=============
Ill take the sunlight, my car is protected against it. The sap will eat your clearcoat over time.
=============
i have tree sap spots on my car.. hard to get rid of especially when its sitting on there for awhile in 100% humidity
=============
+1 for the pellet gun!

sun for sure

sun is hard on your paint over time but tree sap will ruin it in short order.

Ask me how I know.... :unamused:

do you cover your car every day in the parking lot where you work?!? :confused:
=============
sunlight, window tint and a front wind shield cover FTW.
=============
not sure why most people choose direct sunlight???
a car's paint and interior are design to be under the sun especially if you protect the interior(plastic/vinyl uv protectant) and exterior (wax/sealant) which takes about 15 minutes and can last up to 6 months (sealant)
sap on the other hand is one of the hardest contaminant to get rid of (way harder then tar)!
=============
I said sunlight, the only argument truly against sunlight I feel would be the weather stripping and gaskets that I would think would weaken over time from such intense heat then cool at night and then all over again.
=============
I can't vote because I don't have a choice. At work, I'm parked in sunlight all day. At home... well, I live in the forest, there's a pine tree covering my drive way.

To combat this, I wash weekly, wax and treat plstic parts monthly, seal every two months and clay every six months. I also treat the interior every month or so.
=============
Direct sunlight + wax!

Tree sap usually comes along with lots of pollen and bird ****, spider webs, seed pods, dead foliage, pine needles, bug nests (caterpillar, larvae), not to mention ice buildup in winter, sagging or broken branches from ice, snow or wind storms... If you have a sun or moon roof, water drainage channels will also begin to clog up from accumulation of crap, and once this resulted in water leaking into the headliner and almost into interior electronics!

Pine trees are the worst for all abovementioned...

if i had to, i would!

one thing I noticed after a hot day under the sun is that it's harder to start-ip the car. I wish I could bike to work, wouldn't it be wonderful?!?!
=============
tree sap. if you've properly protected you paintwork and wash the car when you get home it shouldn't be a problem.
=============
sunlight.
protect your paint with sealant/wax.
use a sun visor if you dont want to tint or cover your car so it can protect the interior.
carry a quick detailer spray and terry...check car for bird poop during your lunch break and when you are off.

sap.
have fun...
=============
Since we're on the subject. What's the best procedure/product to use to get sap off.. I park under a pine tree, it's the only space I have. I use a car cover when my car is clean but once my car gets dirty, I don't even bother. Sap gets on it, but when I notice it right away and when it's still sticky and goo'y, It's pretty easy to remove, but when that ish bakes in, talk about a pain in the ass...

bug/tar remover
=============
Hopefully it is not pine sap, that can be very troublesome. Try to park somewhere or atleast get a car cover.

Sap is very harmful to the clear.

For removal I use:
-Denatured alcohol
-3M Adhesive Remover
-WD40
-Goo Gone

All of these are clearcoat safe, but you will need to wax again after you are finished.

=============
I read that if sap is really baked in the clear/paint you might have to compound first to soften it then tar removal, googone etc...
=============
Goo gone now has this cool citrus gel stuff that works wonders on stickers and stuff like that. I never though of using it on my car...
=============
how far from a tree should I park to be sap safe? because if I am 6 feet away from the farthest reaching branch and there's wind blowing, then the sap would get on the car. right or wrong?

tree sap... sun kills the interior and exterior.

haha:lol: so you would rather try and take off tree sap than park your car in the sun for an entire day? Sun kills the exterior and interior OVER TIME, not in one day.
